Spooky Books… For Scaredy Cats
It’s Spooky Season!!! It’s my favourite season. I absolutely adore Halloween and all things spooky. I just have one big problem…. I’m the biggest scaredy cat you can ever imagine. I can’t watch horror movies… I get scared. I can’t read horror for the same reason. However… with amazing ‘spooky’ Middle Grade and YA books means I don’t have to miss out on all of the spooky season fun! So here’s five of my favourite spooky books suitable for scaredy cats like me!
The Ravens is the perfect spooky book. It’s a sorority based storyline set in a University in America. It just so happens that the most popular sorority on campus happens to be a coven of witches. This book is addictive and it is dark and gritty, making it perfect for spooky season, while not being scary. I loved it and I can’t wait for the second book.
Don’t Look Back was my very first YA Thriller that I read. I absolutely loved every moment of it. It’s creepy and mysterious, which makes it a perfect October read. Jennifer L Armentrout really made me fall in love with this genre and now I absolutely love reading YA Thrillers at this time of year.
City of Ghosts is absolutely perfect for those people who get scared easily. It’s spooky in terms of there’s ghosts and haunted locations. However, it is a middle grade book so there is nothing scary going on in this. It’s just a super fun, atmospheric read. I highly recommend this series.
Sawkill Girls is definitely a creepy book. It actually gave me chills. I was creeped out for sure, but not to the extent that I was terrified and about to have nightmares. It’s set in a very creepy town, where girls keep going missing. It’s mysterious and such a fun read. I really enjoyed this one.
The Dead List… I left the scariest for last. Another fantastic thrilled from JLA… I actually did find this one quite terrifying. But I have a major phobia of clowns and here we have a killer wearing a clown mask. It’s super creepy but definitely worth the read. It was fantastic. I’m glad I read it… I will never be re-reading it though… reading about clown masks was enough just once thanks!
