From Goodreads:
Mia Corvere has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church hierarchy think she’s far from earned it. Plying her bloody trade in a backwater of the Republic, she’s no closer to ending the men who destroyed her familia; in fact, she’s told directly that Consul Scaeva is off limits. But after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia’s suspicions about the Red Church’s true motives begin to grow.
“he’d grown up inside books. No matter how dark life became, shutting out the hurt was as easy as opening a cover.”
After finishing Nevernight, I couldn’t wait to dive straight into Godsgrave. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this series after having previously only read Jay’s books that he has wrote with Amie Kaufman, which are very different from this series. Turns out, I absolutely love Jay Kristoff’s writing and I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next in this series.
Godsgrave picks up where Nevernight left off, with Mia leaving the school for assassins and coping with everything on her own. I feel like Mia went through so much growth in this book. She went from the little girl filled with vengeance to…. a fully trained assassin filled with vengeance. Honestly I just love her. Mia is one of my favourite lead female characters in a series, (I can’t call her a heroine guys). She is the definition of an anti-hero and I love her for it! She is such a complex and fascinating character to read about and I can’t wait to read book 3 and see what is going to happen with her.
Godsgrave was incredible. Filled with twists and turns that will keep you gagging. I couldn’t read… well, listen… fast enough. Any spare minute I was putting this audiobook on. I absolutely love the narrator, he does such a fantastic job of bringing life to all of these characters and I will definitely be on the lookout for more books that he has narrated.
Godsgrave was fantastic! A phenomenal instalment in the Nevernight Chronicles and one that I enjoyed even more than the first book. The first book built up the world so Godsgrave could flourish! I loved every moment of it and I can’t wait to dive into the third and final book in this dark and twisty series. If you love dark fantasy… this series is not one to be missed.
“The heavens grant us only one life, but through books, we live a thousand.”
