Short Series Vs Long Series
One of the biggest questions I always personally ask when I am recommended a new series is ‘how long is it?’ I know a lot of people absolutely love a long series that they can sink their teeth into. I on the other hand, love a short series. I start to get bored of the same world or couple if I am reading for too long. That’s not to say I haven’t loved some long series, I have. So here I’m going to talk about the pros and cons of both short and long series.
As a caveat, I will just confirm that for me, a long series is any series that is more than 6 books!
Short Series
I honestly adore short series so much. Duologies and Trilogies are my favourite length series. For me, I am not a binge reader so I typically read books as they release or will read other books in the middle of the series. So, for me shorter series are ideal as I’m probably going to remember more from the books if there are only 2 or 3 books. If I don’t, and need to re-read, it’s not going to take me a long time to re-read them. In addition to this, if you are reading the books as they release you don’t have quite as long to wait to find out how it all ends.
On the other side of it, you are sometimes left with questions and wanting more if it’s not completely wrapped up. The series that comes to mind for me is Delirium by Lauren Oliver. I loved this series but it was left very open and left me wishing that there was another book.

Long Series
For me, as I said in the introduction of this post are series that are more than 6 books. I think what is great about longer series is that you really get to connect to the characters over a long period of time. In addition, you also get to go more in depth with the world and have more complex storylines.
However, for me personally I forget so many details of long series as there is just so much happening and going on. If I binge read them in one go, I honestly get bored and I am always wishing for the end so I can see what happens to the characters. If you’re reading them as they come out, you can also be left on cliffhanger after cliffhanger for years and years on end. Having said that there are a few longer series that I have really enjoyed.
