Spooky Season Recs: Witches

Years ago I used to really dislike witchy books. I don’t know what it was. I could get into and love books with any creature except for witches. And I can’t pinpoint which book was the turning point but now they are my all time favourite. If it has witches I am buying that book as soon as possible. So here are 5 of my favourite witchy books perfect for spooky season.

Threadneedle by Cari Thomas is the first book in the Language of Magic series and it is such a delight to read. It’s kind of historical and set in our world but where there are witches hidden and at play. I absolutely loved this book and book 2’s cover has just been announced with a release date I am sure will be imminent.

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling is a super cute witchy romcom, perfect for people who love spooky season but don’t want to be scared. Honestly when I first read The Ex Hex I rated it 3 stars. I found it enjoyable but not amazing. Then I re-read it a few months ago before reading book 2 and I loved it so much more. Mood reading is real!! And book 2 is one of my all time favourite witchy books so it is absolutely worth reading.

Her Majesty’s Royal Cover by Juno Dawson is very different from the other witchy books on this list. It is raw and gritty and dark… and I am absolutely obsessed with it. I adore Juno’s work and her first delve into fantasy made me dying for more from her. This book left me absolutely shocked at the end. It was a huge cliffhanger (and if you know me well you know me saying it’s a cliffhanger means IT IS A CLIFFHANGERRRRRR!!!!!)

No witchy list from me would be complete without The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna. It is my all time favourite witch book. It’s cute, uplifting and just utterly perfect. I found this book just at the right time and honestly it saved my life. It’s sweet, about found family and I just think everyone should read this book.

And finally, The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco is a YA witchy series that is dark and gritty. I really enjoyed this series that revolved around a witch who can control the dead. It’s such a fun read and definitely worth giving a go.
