You can’t outrun the Registration

Imagine it’s legal to commit one murder in your lifetime–if you Register the victim and accomplish the kill within fourteen days. So when Lynell Mize stands in line to Register the man who abused her as a child, she’s shocked to hear a stranger Register her to be killed. Why would anyone who doesn’t know her squander his one legal murder on her? Desperate to survive the next two weeks, she must find out who wants to kill her–and why.

Easier said than done as Lynell soon discovers that multiple strangers have used their Registration on her. Along the way, she reunites with her estranged husband who is determined to dig up a past Lynell prefers to keep buried. With only days left to live, Lynell is determined to uncover the truth and survive a destiny not of her choosing.

The Registration is a book I had never heard of before the end of last year. When I was asking friends for recommendations for my ‘Read 12 Books Recommended by 12 Friends’ Challenge someone recommended this one. This is honestly not my typical kind of read but as I was using this challenge to try and broaden my reading horizons, I decided to give it a go. I am so glad I added this book as I actually really enjoyed it.

The Registration is a dystopian thriller set in a world that asks ‘if it was legal for you to register and kill one person in your life would it help control the amounts of crime in our world.’ I found this such a fascinating concept and it does really make you think about the similarities and differences between this world and ours. It definitely included some very real topics, for example women who wanted to have an abortion had to use their ‘registration’ for this and there were rebel groups fighting against this. It was so thought provoking and I really enjoyed this concept. The main plot centred around Lynell, a girl who goes to use her registration only to overhead someone she has never met registering her.

Right from the first chapter I was absolutely hooked into this book. Madison Lawson did an absolutely fantastic job of really gripping you in right from the start. I listened to this one via audiobook, which I listen to on my commutes and I remember pulling into my work carpark mouth agape, shocked and kind of angry that I was going to have to wait an entire day till my drive home to listen to more. I felt like this throughout the entire thing.

The narrator of this audiobook was fantastic. She really brought the characters and this plot to life, and I am so glad that I decided to listen to the audiobook of this one. It was truly fantastic. A huge thank you to the publisher and netgalley for allowing me the audiobook edition to review. If you’re looking for something exciting that you can’t put down, give this one a go. It truly was such a fantastic book and after seeing Madison is going to write a sequel I honestly cannot wait to read it. The Registration was action packed, fast paced and leaves you hanging all the way through. I honestly cannot recommend this one enough! Go get it now, you won’t be disappointed!
