“Don’t fuck with librarians lady, we know the power of words
I’ve been on a Jay Kristoff binge lately and as soon as I finished listening to the audiobook of Godsgrave, I couldn’t wait to dive straight into Darkdawn. Let me begin by saying, I am not usually a binge reader, I get super bored being in the same world for too long. But there is just something about this series, especially the audio editions that made me unable to stop. I am so glad I continued with this straight away as it truly was a fantastic conclusion to this epic series.
Darkdawn picks up where Godsgrave left off, with Mia on the run. It is a fast-paced and emotional rollercoaster ride, this one. I really enjoyed everything about Darkdawn. Everything I could have wanted in this finale, I got and more. It is jam packed full of twists and turns that I never saw coming. I couldn’t put this book down. I was listening to the audio any chance I got. I couldn’t wait to see how it all ended for our favourite anti-hero, Mia. I’ve never been one who loved morally grey characters as the protagonist as I struggle to get behind the evil-ish actions, but there’s just something about Mia Corvere. You can’t help but love her and root for her.
Jay Kristoff has fast become one of my favourite authors. A few years ago I hadn’t really heard much about him, and only discovered him through his YA books that he had wrote with Amie Kaufman. Now, I have devoured almost all of his work, and I just can’t get enough. Darkdawn really showed his incredible storytelling skills. He had me hysterically laughing one minute and the next I was distraught with tears welling in my eyes. I went through such a emotional rollercoaster with this book. It was utterly fantastic.
Darkdawn was a fantastic finale to a fantastic series. It’s dark, gritty and just utterly brilliant. I have loved every moment of this fantastic trilogy. If you struggle with reading it physically (as I hear some people do due to the footnotes) then I highly recommend listening to the audiobook. I cannot praise the narrator of this series enough, he is just utterly fantastic and really drew me in to this world. This is definitely one that I will re-read and re-listen to again and again and again. Highly, highly recommended.
