From Goodreads:
Claire Danvers has her share of challenges—like being a genius in a school that favors beauty over brains, dealing with the homicidal girls in her dorm, and above all, finding out that her college town is overrun with vampires. On the up side, she has a great roommate (who tends to disappear at sunup) and a new boyfriend named Shane, whose vampire-hunting dad has called in backup: cycle punks who like the idea of killing just about anything.

Now a fraternity is throwing its annual Dead Girls’ Dance and—surprise!—Claire and her equally outcast best friend, Eve, have been invited. When they find out why, all hell is going to break loose. Because this time both the living and the dead are coming out—and everybody’s hungry for blood.

I absolutely love The Morganville Vampires series. I read it for the first time back in 2010, but as I wasn’t a blogger back then, I didn’t write reviews for them. As I am doing a series re-read, I thought that it would be the perfect time to write reviews for them. The Dead Girls Dance was a really enjoyable second book in the series and I really enjoyed it.

The Dead Girls Dance follows Claire and the gang as they adapt to the fact that Shane’s dangerous Vampire Hunter father has come to town… and he could ruin everything. They were just feeling like they were safe and now one wrong turn could cause Amelie’s protection to disappear. I really enjoyed this second instalment, but honestly I didn’t love it quite as much as I remember when I originally read the series. This one felt very much like filler to me. It was definitely setting important factors in place ready for some bigger plot points to come but it ended up being a little bit boring in places.

For me it’s the characters that make this series. I adore Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael so much and they are definitely the best part of the book. Which is saying a lot, considering I am a plot driven reader. I loved the dynamic of the four of them, but this one definitely focused more on Eve and Michael’s relationship and I felt like I kind of missed Shane a little in this one. Don’t get me wrong, he’s there but he isn’t in it quite as much as I would have wanted.

The Dead Girls Dance was a good second instalment in an amazing series. I can’t wait to dive into the third one. I honestly just adore this series so much, and this re-read is definitely a nostalgic feeling for me. I love it and can’t wait to dive into Midnight Alley.
