Fantasy Books Under 400 Pages

If you’re a regular on BookTok, I’m sure you’ll have come across the controversy a few months ago when someone claimed that if a book is below 400 or 500 pages then it can’t be considered a fantasy. A lot of other readers called bullshit on that, myself included, so I am here to share with you my favourite fantasy books that are 400 pages or less.

  • Godkiller by Hannah Kaner is a new Adult Epic Fantasy book that I fell in love with last month. It sits at 304 pages and is filled with adventure, Gods, action… it’s just wonderful!
  • Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree is the epitome of cosy fantasy! This feel good low stakes, high fantasy novel sits at 296 pages.
  • The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is more contemporary fantasy that the other two. It’s set in our world but is such a cosy fantasy with everyone’s favourites tropes: found family, grumpy vs sunshine etc. This incredible 336 page fantasy was my favourite read of last year and I honestly cannot recommend it enough.
  • The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling is another contemporary fantasy. It’s 308 pages of laugh out loud, feel good romantic vibes.
  • Only A Monster sits at 368 pages and it’s a mixture of fantasy and time travel and heroes and villains. I absolutely loved every moment of this one and I can’t wait for book 2.
  • The Graceling is the first book in a Young Adult Epic Fantasy series. I read this one last year and loved it. It is 400 pages exactly, so just fits into this post but is one of my favourite fantasy series starts so I highly recommend this one.
  • Fable is a Young Adult Fantasy book about pirates and gem merchants and it’s one of my all time favourites. At 357 pages it’s a perfect fast read to give you your fantasy fix.
  • Midnight’s Twins by Holly Race is a Young Adult series that mixes contemporary and high fantasy. This 352 page series starter is set in the real world and a dream world where magic is real and power inspired by the fae and Arthurian Legends. It’s definitely worth the read!
  • Roar by Cora Carmack is one of my favourite Young Adult Epic Fantasy series starts. At 380 pages, it’s a quick read that you will be unable to put down. With disguised royalty and magic inspired by the elements you can’t go wrong.
  • And last, but certainly not least, is The Falconer by Elizabeth May. This Steampunk inspired Fantasy has everything. Magic, fae, debutantes and murder… and at 378 pages you can fly through this one!

Thank you so very much for your timely post. It’s late at night and my brain is shitting down but I’m getting to the point where I’m getting tired of these 600-800 page plus novels. I just don’t have enough brain space right now.
