Top 10 of 2022: New-To-Me Authors
There are so many new authors that I discovered this year. I used to name this post my breakthrough authors of the year, but for me many of these authors are ones that have been publishing for a while so I decided to rename is as my Top 10 ‘New-To-Me’ Authors. So here are the ten authors that I hadn’t picked up before that really made an impact on me this year.
10. Travis Baldree:
Legends and Lattes was a low stakes, adult cosy fantasy with a cute as hell romance between a Succubus and a Orc. It’s so different to my usual kind of reads but it definitely made me want to hunt out some more low-stake fantasy books. I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for some more from Travis in the future.
9. AG Riddle
Lost in Time is not my usual kind of read but this time travel mystery and dinosaurs was absolutely everything to me. I don’t know what it was that drew me to this book, but AG Riddle impressed me with their storytelling skills in this one. It’s such a wonderfully complex book that only the more skilled of writers can pull off. I will definitely be looking out for more from them in the future.
8. Ayana Gray
Beasts of Prey is a very detailed fantasy with some of the most wonderful fantasy animals intertwined throughout this tale. I loved how fresh and unique it was and I can’t wait to see where the series goes next. Also, I met Ayana at YALC and I just loved her, she’s the sweetest!
7. Danielle L Jensen
I’ve had Danielle’s books on my TBR for so long, but it was her The Bridge Kingdom that I dove into this year. While a part of me does feel like this series is a little bit over-hyped, I did enjoy these books and really liked Danielle’s world-building. I can’t wait to try more from her in the future.
6. TJ Klune
He’s been all over my timeline for quite a number of years, and I finally bit the bullet and dove in. I loved The House in the Cerulean Sea. It’s just a super sweet, adorable, feel-good book and it definitely made me look out for more TJ Klune books. I also read The Extraordinaries by his this year, and I really enjoyed it… just not as much as The House in the Cerulean Sea.
5. Kat Delacorte
With Fire in Their Blood found me at a time of a great slump and I just loved how dark and gorgeous it was. Add to the fact that it’s set in Italy I just loved that. I can’t wait for the next book.
4. Emily Henry
I know, I know… where have I been? I honestly hadn’t heard of Emily Henry before this year. I read Book Lovers for my book club read and I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to picking up her other books in the future. I loved how she switched some common tropes on their head.
3. Vanessa Len
I loved Only A Monster so much, naturally Vanessa had to have a spot on this list. This book is everything. Told from the perspective of the villain… I just loved everything about this book. I cannot wait for book 2.
2. Sangu Mandanna
Get ready to see this book all over my lists because this book is one of my all time favourite books. It’s witchy, it’s uplifting and I read this when I was going through such a tough time, and it just really uplifted my spirits so I can’t thank Sangu enough for giving me this book!
1. Rebecca Ross
I know Asis, one of my best bookish friends, will be sat there screaming finally! She has been trying to get my to read Rebecca Ross for years and I finally did! I read A River Enchanted and Rebecca Ross well and truly stole my soul. I can’t even put into words my love of her words, characters and her writing. There really was nobody else who could be number one on this list!

I read both Danielle L Jensen and TJ Klune this year. Enjoyed both and was really surprised by The House by the Cerulean Sea. I even reached out to Mr. Klune because getting me to feel sympathy for the son of the devil was quite something.
