My Favourite Vampire Reads for Spooky Season

October is my favourite month. I adore everything about Autumn. The cooler weather, the darker nights drawing in… Halloween! It’s spooky season, and during spooky season I love nothing more than to reminisce about my favourite books with my favourite ‘creatures’. Today I’m sharing my favourite books that include Vampires.

First up is of course, Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. While I’m not the biggest Twilight fan anymore, nobody can deny the massive influence that this book series has had. Back when I read it as a teenager, I obsessed over it, and without it, I probably wouldn’t read as much fantasy books. So no vampire list can be compiled without this one.

Next up is Glass Houses, the first book in the Morganville Vampires series by the late but great Rachel Caine. I can never put into words my obsession with this series. It’s absolutely fantastic. A YA series when the vampires are not good… they’re evil and will kill you without a second thought. Back when I started it, in the post-Twilight craze it was refreshing and wonderful.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead had to be included in this list. A fantastic and epic YA series full of vampires, romance and action! I loved every moment of this series, and it is still one of my all time favourites.

The Vampire Stalker by Allison Van Diepen is a different type of vampire book but I love it all the same. It’s set on the premise of a vampire stalker from a popular book series suddenly comes to life. I loved this idea of our favourite creatures and characters finding themselves in our world.

Empire of the Vampire is my most recent vampire obsession. This is dark and gory! And I loved every single moment of it. Jay Kristoff is just a genius and his vampire series is going to be my favourite. I can’t wait for book 2.

I read and discussed Twilight with my daughter. Stephanie’s grammer was so distracting to me. And her archaic use of words – by dint of elbow grease – a teenager doesn’t say that. Not even Bella.
