From Goodreads:
When Fionn Boyle sets foot on Arranmore Island, it begins to stir beneath his feet …

Once in a generation, Arranmore Island chooses a new Storm Keeper to wield its power and keep its magic safe from enemies. The time has come for Fionn’s grandfather, a secretive and eccentric old man, to step down. Soon, a new Keeper will rise.

But, deep underground, someone has been waiting for Fionn. As the battle to become the island’s next champion rages, a more sinister magic is waking up, intent on rekindling an ancient war.

The Storm Keeper’s Island is definitely not my typical kind of read. However, after reading and loving Catherine Doyle’s YA series, I really wanted to give her middle grade a go. So when it was on one of the audible sale’s I snapped it up and thought it would be a cute, quick listen. And it definitely was.

The Storm Keeper’s Island follows Fionn, a young boy who is visiting his grandfather on Arranmore Island. But Arranmore Island is more than it seems, it’s filled with magic and it needs a protector. Fionn is flung into a magical and mystical world, discovering family secrets and hurtling towards his destiny.

I enjoyed The Storm Keeper’s Island. It was fun and cute. I really liked the discovery of the magical world that we see in this book. It was really intriguing and kept me interested. The narrator of this audiobook did a great job of bringing this world and it’s characters to life. I really felt every emotion that Fionn goes through, and I think that’s definitely in-part to do with the fantastic narration. If you’re interested in this book and this series, I recommend checking out the audio edition.

I definitely think I was a little too old to fully love this book. That is nothing to do with the book, but more to do with the fact that this is aimed at young children, and I am definitely not a young child. It is still a fantastic book and I would definitely recommend it for those who have children. I think it is a fun and magical adventure that any child would love… for me, I just didn’t get blown away by it. I probably won’t continue with the series, but I am still really glad I gave this one a go.
