Graphic Novels: Are You A Fan or Not?
Graphic novels are always something that has had me completely on the fence. I know some people absolutely adore them and I love that they exist for those people. In the past I would have always said that I am not a fan of graphic novels, but now I’m just not so sure.
99.9% of what I read are novels/novellas. Anything that involves prose text, that is always going to be my preference. I remember reading a few comics when I was very young and enjoying them, but by the time that I started to become an avid reader, I never even considered picking up a graphic novel. Fast forward a good 10 years after I started blogging, and now I have in fact, read some graphic novels… and I’m still pretty much on the fence about them.
Most of the graphic novels I have picked up, I have done so because I already like the author, or I have discovered them through some other means first. For example, I really enjoyed the graphic novels by VE Schwab… but I have read all of her novels first. I really loved Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper graphic novels, but I read Solitaire and watched the TV show first.
I would really love to love graphic novels. They are so quick to read, my reading challenge would be finished in no time… however as I am not an ‘artsy’ person, I just don’t feel like I appreciate the art and graphics that are present. I find that I very rarely look at the art and I just read the dialogue. I would love to try and get into graphic novels more, but I feel like I am definitely not the demographic for these mediums.
Here’s a couple of graphic novels I have read and enjoyed.
Is there any amazing graphic novels that I should try? What do you think about them?

Watchmen is absolutely my favorite graphic novel.
I Am Not Ok With This (from which the Netflix series was based on) is horrid. The artwork is terrible.
Like you, I’m on the fence.
