Omnibus/Bind-Up OR Seperate Instalments

When it comes to series that have been out for a while, or are finished before you discover them, book lovers are always left with a dilemma. Do I buy each instalment separately, or do I buy a bind up/omnibus edition of the entire series? Both come with their pros and cons. With e-books it’s usually a no-brainer… get the bind up edition… but if you’re someone who doesn’t read ebooks and will be buying the physical copies there’s a little bit more to consider.

If you’re leaning towards the bind up edition, you only have to make one purchase, and the bind up editions usually include any novellas, in the correct place of the series. This has always been the thing that has swayed me to buying the bind-ups in the past. Add to that the fact that sometimes, especially with self-published books, it is often cheaper to buy the bind up. However, they are super bulky to hold. Add to that the fact that the text is often printed super small to fit all of the series into something that can actually be bound together.

I found this when I was reading The Bargainer series by Laura Thalassa. I adore the cover for the bind up edition, so it was a no-brainer for me to get that one. However, the text was so small in this edition that it ended up giving my headaches trying to read it and I ended up reading most of them on e-book (which I typically do not enjoy reading). Ever since then I’ve been swayed to getting books in a series separately. Plus, the more separate books the series is spread over… the more I can ‘up’ my reading challenge.
