Divided by their order. United by their vengeance.Iraya has spent her life in a cell, but every day brings her closer to freedom – and vengeance.
Jazmyne is the Queen’s daughter, but unlike her sister before her, she has no intention of dying to strengthen her mother’s power.
Sworn enemies, these two witches enter a precarious alliance to take down a mutual threat. But power is intoxicating, revenge is a bloody pursuit, and nothing is certain – except the lengths they will go to win this game.
This Jamaican-inspired fantasy debut about two enemy witches who must enter into a deadly alliance to take down a common enemy has the twisted cat-and-mouse of Killing Eve with the richly imagined fantasy world of Furyborn and Ember in the Ashes.
Witches Steeped in Gold is a book that’s been on my radar since before it was published. As a lover of all things fantasy, I was so excited to get my hands on this book. It sounded absolutely amazing. I still feels like this book has an amazing premise, but unfortunately the execution of that premise just didn’t work for me.
I was actually listening to the audiobook for this one, so I don’t know if it was me just completely zoning out but I found this book really confusing. I was a good hundred or so pages in and I just couldn’t understand anything that was going on. I didn’t really understand who was who, or what the plot was. After reading a few reviews on Goodreads, I found that a lot of people also found this confusing, and some said that things don’t really make sense until the end of the book. I am such an impatient person, so I decided that I was just going to cut my losses and give up on this one.
I really wish I’d loved this one, but I had no motivation to continue after the first hundred pages. I might come back to it at some point and try physically reading it, but for now this one is a DNF for me.
