Underrated Disney Movies… As Book Choices
One thing I love just as much as books and reading is Disney. I am a complete and utter Disney addict. I adore watching so many Disney movies over and over. I really wanted to do a post of book recommendation that made me think of certain Disney movies. The more I thought about it though, the more I thought about using some more underrated Disney movies. It’s easy to come up with book recommendations for things like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast as there are already a million retellings published. I wanted to go for some different Disney movies, that you don’t really see book adaptations of. Some of my recommendations are very loosely linked but let’s just go with it.
Moana – Books Set At Sea
I don’t necessarily think that Moana is an underrated Disney Movie. It’s very popular but not one that you find book adaptations of. I’ve gone with Moana as a sea theme. So here’s five books set at sea or on the water that I recommend.
Hercules – Books Influenced By Greek Mythology
Hercules is one of my all time favourite Disney movies. I feel like it is so much better than people give it credit for. Add to that the fact that I love Greek Mythology, of course this was going to be one of my choices. Here are five books with Greek Mythology that are a must-read.
Tangled – Books With Absentee Parents
Tangled is another one of my favourite Disney movies. It’s just so fun and hilarious. For this one I went with YA books with absent parents. I know in Tangled her parents are not there because she was kidnapped but the majority of the movie it’s her and Flynn alone with no parental input… so it fits.
Robin Hood – Books With Rich Vs Poor Characters
Okay I know what you’re thinking. Robin Hood is not underrated. You’re right, it’s not… and actually there are a million retellings of this one too. But I haven’t gone for those retellings. I’ve gone for books where there are some rich characters that interact with poor characters. I think it’s actually a super popular trope, particularly in romance.
Tarzan – Books ‘Set in the Wild’
I chose Tarzan as it’s set out in the wild. I have interpreted this as books set in places other than the US and the UK. The vast majority of the books I read are set in the US and UK so here are some set a little further afield.
Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments.

Ohh. This is such a fun list! I’ve only read 3 of the books your listed, but they are some of my favorites! And a lot of the other ones I already own but just haven’t had the chance to read yet! You know, so many books, so little time and all of that!
