Books I DNF’d Last Quarter

Can you believe we are already over a quarter of the way through this year? This year is flying by and while I have read lots of fantastic books, I’ve had a few that I DNF’d as well. I am a very big believer in DNF’ing… if you’re not liking a book just cut your losses and move on. Here are the four that I have done just that with so far this year.

Big Bad Me by Aislinn O’Loughlin is a YA Paranormal Romance that was chosen for my YA Book Club. It’s fast paced and action packed but I felt like that was at the detriment to the character development. I felt like it was just a little too ‘young’ for me and I didn’t connect to the characters very much.

The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean is an Adult Fantasy which was just really bizarre. I actually really liked the first half, but after that I grew a little bored and didn’t feel like picking it back up… do I didn’t.

A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet should have been a perfect book for me. Fantasy romance with greek mythology… all things that I love. But there was just something missing for me. I got about half way before I decided this one was not for me.

Breaking the Rules by Katie McGarry is the follow on from Pushing the Limits. I just didn’t feel like this one was necessary or needed and it was ruining my love for the characters so at 40% I decided not to continue.

Most of the books I would have given up on were for book club so I toughed them out. The Last House On Needless Street. It wasn’t so much that it was bad. Just overwhelming. Then there were the two Stephen King short stories. Ugh. I will say, the man can write. I just don’t enjoy his writing.
