Update On My 2022 Reading Goals

It’s getting towards the end of the year, and I’ve already started thinking about my 2023 goals. Before my Top 10 of 2022 starts, I thought I would update you all on the goals I set for myself this year. I made a post HERE which had a few reading goals. Here’s how I have done on them…

Goal 1: Read 52 Books in 2022

I am very happy to say not only did I achieve this one, I well and truly surpassed it. Upon writing this post on the 10th of December here is my current Goodreads update…

I personally am hoping to do lots of reading and get to 100 by the end of the year. I am off work for 2 weeks over Christmas so I should be able to do it. If I do, it’ll be the first time since I started teaching full time 8 years ago that I’ll have hit 100 books! Wish me luck!

Finish 15 Series I’ve Started And Not Completed

I have epically failed on this one! I managed to finish four series this year, which I am very pleased with, but definitely a few short of the 15 I had hoped for. I am continuing this challenge throughout 2023!

The four series I managed to finish are:

  • Geek Girl Series by Holly Smale – YA Contemporary
  • Blood Heir Series by Amelie Wen Zhao – YA Fantasy
  • The Darkest Minds Series by Alexandra Bracken – YA Dystopia
  • The Prison Healer Series by Lynette Noni – YA Fantasy

My 2023 Challenge is going to be finish 12 more. Wish me luck!

Tackle That TBR

Honestly… I cannot even tell you how far I managed to get with this one. I very stupidly set this as a challenge without giving any details on how big my TBR was back in January. So I can tell you how bit my TBR is now (huuuuuuge) but I have no idea if that is smaller or larger than this time last year! This year when I set a similar challenge, I’ll include some more information so it is actually measurable!

Catch Up On Past Illumicrate and Fairyloot Books

Okay, let’s talk Illumicrate first. In January I had 8 books that I had gotten from Illumicrate that I had not read. Not counting the books that I received this year, so only the ones I’d originally added to this challenge, I have 7 to read. So I managed a grand total of 1! Talk about failing!

Now Fairyloot. In January I had 9 books that I had gotten from Fairyloot that I had not read. Of those 9, I managed to read 2. So better than Illumicrate… but still an epic fail!

Catch Up On The ARC Backlog

So for these ones, I counted how many ARCs/Netgalley eARCs/Edelweiss eARCs I had before the beginning of the year in my backlog. Now before you start judging me, I have been reviewing for 11 years and I had a reviewing/blogging break for a couple years in that time, so I DO have a big backlog.

At the start of the year the backlog was 30 books. Of those 30, I managed to read 3. Now this sounds bad, but keep in mind I also received 46 ARCs this year, so I had those to read as well. From those 46 I read 16. I will be continuing this challenge in 2023, with my current backlog starting at 56….. wish me luck! I will need it!

So there we are, my update on my challenges. I know I failed most of them, but I set myself these because it is hard and if I’ve made a little bit of progress on them, then they’ve been worth it! Look out for a proper 2023 Challenges post coming in January!
