Set sail into the second adventure of Amina al-Sirafi as her quest to track down magical artifacts brings her to the island lair of a sorceress whose woven enchantments are impossible to flee…
Amina al-Sirafi thinks she’s struck gold. Tasked with hunting down magical artifacts for the council of immortal peris, she can savour the occasional adventure on the high seas with her cherished criminal companions while still returning home to raise her beloved daughter.
But when Raksh, the spirit of discord with whom she is reluctantly wed, provokes the council’s wrath, Amina is charged with a seemingly impossible quest: steal a spindle capable of rewriting fate from a mysterious sorceress on an island no one can escape.
Forced to leave her daughter, Amina finds her mission almost immediately thrown into peril. But deadly storms, an erratic poison mistress, and old enemies are the least of her worries. For the peris’ story is unravelling, hinting at a far deadlier game whose rules Amina must swiftly puzzle out. A game that sets her against an adversary more cunning and powerful than she has ever faced.
A game that not everyone on her crew wants her to win.
The Tapestry of Fate was one of my most anticipated 2026 released. Ever since I absolutely devoured Shannon Chakraborty’s Daevabad series, I have been dying for more work from her. I read and really enjoyed The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi back when it first released, and so I was dying to get my hands on the sequel. I was so excited to be able to dive into this one a little bit early, and I have to say the wait for this book was so worth it. I loved every single moment of this fantastic sequel.
The Tapestry of Fate follows Amina and her unruly crew going voyaging on the hunt for more magical artifacts for the magical race of the Peri. This one is more magical than the last, but that comes with more danger and definitely more at stake. They are tasked with retrieving a magical spindle that can rewrite fate, but it is guarded by a powerful witch on a seemingly inescapable island. If Amina and crew are able to get the spindle, that might be the least of their worries.
I have to say I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first book. Maybe it’s because the magical worldbuilding has already been done, but it felt a lot more fast paced and action packed than the first book in the series. In addition, it’s probably also because we now know the majority of the characters and our emotions for them is already well established. Despite this book taking me longer than usual to read, I just enjoyed savouring every second of it. There’s just something magical about Shannon’s phenomenal writing style that I just fall into it and enjoy every single word.
One thing I really loved about this one was the little hints to the possibility of this series co-existing in the world of the Daevabad. There were so many little easter eggs to the Daeva and the idea of this just being in a different part of that world. As a huge Daevabad fangirl I loved this. The more I read these little hints, the more excited I became. I’m secretly hoping for a little crossover between them. Can we maybe see Dara when he is on his journeys? I’d love for that to happen so much.
The Tapestry of Fate was an utterly fantastic follow up to Amina Al-Sirafi. I loved all the additional character development that we experienced throughout this book. Shannon Chakraborty really has a skill for developing amazingly complex characters. That really hit a pinnacle with this book, in my opinion. We found out some deep secrets about some of Amina’s crew and I loved seeing their stories progress. My opinions on characters changed. Some characters I adored, I don’t love quite as much anymore. Some I love even more than I did. The development was just superb.
However, one small gripe I had with Tapestry of Fate is that Amina’s crew are seperated for a large chunk of the book and we follow Amina (naturally) throughout the events. While a part of me did love this storyline, the other part of me really missed the larger ensemble of the cast. I was missing many of the other characters and it was just making me want to race through the book until they were back togther. This is still a phenomenal book and I truly loved every moment of it, but I do wish we had the bigger ensemble together for more of the book.
I loved every moment of this fantastic book, and that ending has got me dying to get my hands on book 3. If you’re a big fantasy fan and a lover of surprising voyages and lots of pirate shananigans, I highly recommend this series to you. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
