He’s the Ghost of Christmas Past. She’s not exactly Scrooge.
Ghost of Christmas Past Nolan Callahan intends to spend this holiday haunting like every other—get in, get out, return to his otherwise aimless existence as a ghost awaiting the afterlife. But when he’s faced with Harriet York, the sweetest assignment he’s ever had, he suddenly finds himself wishing for a future.
Harriet York has no idea why she’s being haunted. She’s a good person—or, at least, she tries to be. A people pleaser to her core, she always does what’s expected of her. But as she and Nolan begin to examine her past, they discover there are threads that bind them together— and realize there might be more to moving on than expected.
With the deadline of Christmas Eve fast approaching, will they find the key to their futures in each other’s pasts? Or will they stay firmly in the present, indulging in their unexpected, spirited connection?
Filled with magic, mayhem, and cozy holiday charm.
“You’re the first thing in a hundred years to make me feel anything at all, Harriet York, and I don’t think that’s an accident.”
Good Spirits is a book that I was really interested in from the moment I heard about it. I have never read anything by BK Borison before, as I’m not really big into contemporary romance anymore, but as a ridiculously festive person, and someone who re-reads A Christmas Carol every single year, I loved the idea of the romantic interest being the Ghost of Christmas Past. I thought I would absolutely love it, and while I did enjoy this book, I personally felt like something was missing.
One thing I really enjoyed about Good Spirits was the premise. I really enjoyed the fact that there were multiple Ghosts of Christmas Past, not just one and that they just lounged around all year, and just became active in December. I thought this was super fun and light. I also loved the fact that Nolan had been paired with the nicest person around. It made me really intrigued to find out why Harriet was being haunted and what it was that had brought them together. Honestly the entire first half of the book I absolutely loved.
My little gripe with it is that the book was just a little bit too long. I felt like in the second half, it was starting to get a little bit repetitive and drawn out and I could feel myself losing interest. I was starting to get a little bit bored. We had reached page 300 and they were still just going into past memories and I didn’t feel like the story had really moved forward at all. I was ready to get some answers by this point, and honestly… I started skim reading a little bit at this point. I did however, really enjoy the ending. I thought the wrap up was really cute.
Overall, I did really enjoyed Good Spirits. I will definitely be reading book 2 when it releases next year, but I’m unsure if I would personally re-read this one. I enjoyed it, and I’m definitely interested in giving some of BK Borison’s other books a go, but there was just that magic spark missing for me. It was fun and cute but I didn’t find myself really emotionally invested as much as I usually am in books. If you’re a fan of romance, and festive romances, I definitely recommend it to you. It’s definitely worth a read, but I think I just went into it with a little too high expectations.
“I’m going to try something new. I’m going to live in the moment without fear of what comes next, enjoy whatever time we have together and appreciate it for what it is.”
