Is it possible to resist temptation when you’re falling for the devil?
At twenty-one, Willow was supposed to be turning into a responsible adult, not proving her mother right when she called her a failure. Now, thanks to one tiny (if fatal) mishap, she’s landed in a dimension named Asphodel that looks suspiciously like hell.
Determined to redeem herself, Willow makes a deal with Asphodel’s ruler, King complete seven tasks, resist the seven sins, and he’ll let her return to her human existence. But when Sath is sin itself, temptation may be hard to resist . . .
A sinful fantasy romcom full of heat, heart and humour, for readers of THE EX HEX and A DEMON’S GUIDE TO WOOING A WITCH.
A Match Made in Hell is a book that from the moment I heard what it was about, I couldn’t wait to dive in. I just knew that this would be such a fun read for me. And I was absolutely correct. Honestly, I expected to enjoy this book… I didn’t expect to love it quite as much as I did. I did not go into this one expecting it to be one of my only 5-star reads of the second half of the year. But that is absolutely what I found. I truly loved every single moment of this book.
A Match Made in Hell follows Willow, a 20-something year old who suddenly finds herself dead and in the underworld that is overrun by demons. In a bid to try and get back to her life and right all of her wrongs, she makes an inpromptu deal with the devil. If she can beat the seven deadly sins, she can get her life back. But as she goes through these trials, she starts to question whether her life is worth going back to when she is starting to form bonds in the afterlife.
I’m going to be completely honest and say the main reason I picked this book up is I saw the author’s video on TikTok saying some of her family had said ‘who would ever buy this book’ and as a very petty person I was like well I will just to spite them. And I’m glad I did as this book was everything I love in a book. It had found family, a bit of magic and a rom com worthy romance. I just truly loved every single moment of this book. Honestly, I was a little worried when I first went into this book as the main premise is around death and the afterlife. As someone who is currently caring for a family member with a terminal condition, this is a pretty touchy subject for me right now. But honestly, the way Charlotte has wrote this book just made me feel all happy and cosy. I just loved the idea of an Asphodel afterlife and it really made me feel a little bit warm and fuzzy about it all… which is saying a lot for the mindset I have been in recently, so honestly I cannot thank Charlotte enough for making a cynical anxious soul like me think about these sort of things in a positive way.
A Match Made in Hell really tackles some dark and hard hitting issues. We have the obvious one (death) but it also tackles toxic relationships, both with a parent, friend and romantic relationship and how hard it can be to deal with that. Even in the afterlife. Despite this book tackling these dark issues, it is done with such due care and diligence that the author has you feeling light and fluffy while thinking about these issues. Honestly, it’s a true skill Charlotte has shown to be able to write about dark matters but in such a humorous way. Honestly, I was laughing all the way through this book. It truly is so much fun.
I honestly loved everything about this book. The character development that Willow goes through is insane. It is just so freaking good. She is such a different character mentally by the end of the book than she was at the start, and I absolutely loved that for her. It was such a fantastic journey to go on with her. There were some twists and turns in there that I truly did not see coming and that just made me love the book all the more. Honestly, I went into this book expecting it to be a fun read and it was… but for me personally, it was so much more. I didn’t expect it to move me so much, but it did. This book was exactly what I needed at the time, and for that reason it will forever be a 5-star for me. The second I finished it, I immediately wanted to start it again, I had such a fun time with it.
A Match Made in Hell was cute, fun and sexy! Regardless of whether you are a fantasy or a romance fan, this is a must-read for everyone! If you love a funny romcom with a little hint of spice, then you do not want to miss this book. It was so much fun and one I will read again and again! I cannot wait for some more books from this author. She is definitely one to watch out for in the future.
