A SWORD…
In the impoverished outer town of a kingdom where fae outrank humans, Faythe, an orphan with a talent for swordplay, knows the importance of keeping her head down around the fae patrol. She and best friend Jakon long for a better life, and her desire to swing her sword in combat may bring the purpose and coin she’s yearned for.

A DREAM…
When she draws the attention of royal guard Nik, she soon learns that her mortal nature isn’t the only reason to remain out of sight. Nik is a Nightwalker, a silent assassin of the mind with the power to enter others’ dreams, and whether she trusts him or not, he’s about to awaken abilities in Faythe that shouldn’t exist in a human. Nightmarish abilities. Deadly abilities. Abilities that will teach Faythe blood really does run thicker than water…and if she doesn’t trust in higher powers soon, blood will run indeed.

AN HEIR…
For this is no battle Faythe can fight with steel. Within the city walls, suspicions are arising, and here in the outer town she has deeper bonds to protect. It seems everyone will die with a dark secret to tell, but what if one unlikely human girl was born harboring the darkest secret of all…?

In a clash of steel, a mortal body may fall. But in a clash of dreams, a powerful heir may rise.

“Nothing is certain. Fate can change.”

An Heir Comes to Rise is a book that has been on my radar for a while. I remember wanting to get it read for RARE Edinburgh last year but just never getting around to it. So when I saw that Chloe C Peneranda was going to RARE again this year, I was determined to finally read it. I am so glad I finally picked this one up as I absolutely loved every moment of it.

I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when I first picked up An Heir Comes To Rise, but honestly I was hooked right from the start. I don’t know what it was about this book, but I really couldn’t put it down. It was fast paced and action packed right from the start. It follows the story of Faythe, a human with a secret power, and when she is discovered by a Fae royal guard, he takes her under his wing to train her in her power. I really loved the dynamic between the two main characters and they were really compelling to read. I personally listened to the audio edition of this one, so I don’t know if it was just the fact that the narrator was fantastic but right from the moment those two met I was rooting for them, and dying to see what was going to happen next with their relationship.

One thing I adored about this book was the strong platonic friendships that are explored in this book. For a moment I was really worried that Chloe was going to go the love triangle route with this as Faythe has a childhood best friend Jakon. However, I was overjoyed to see Jakon find his own love interest early on and this book really explored the idea that men and women can have meaningful platonic friendships and I adored that. I am the kind of person who things that platonic friendships are just as important as romantic relationships so I adored this dynamic.

The more I read of An Heir Comes to Rise, the more I became obsessed. It was so action packed and I was so emotionally invested in what was going to happen. I’ve really been struggling with reading this year, being in slump after slump but this definitely got me out of it. I honestly loved every moment and the moment I finished it I was dying to dive straight into book 2… and coming from someone who doesn’t binge read, that a huge compliment.

An Heir Comes to Rise really gave me early Throne of Glass vibes, and I am absolutely here for it! Although I guessed the twist pretty early, it didn’t affect my enjoyment at all. If you’re looking for a new romantasy series to obsess over, look no further. This is it! I can’t wait to continue this series and see what happens next. It truly was a phenomenal start to what I am hoping is a fantastic series.
