True love is at stake in this charming, debut romantic comedy.
Cassie Greenberg loves being an artist, but it’s a tough way to make a living. On the brink of eviction, she’s desperate when she finds a too-good-to-be-true apartment in a beautiful Chicago neighborhood. Cassie knows there has to be a catch—only someone with a secret to hide would rent out a room for that price.
Of course, her new roommate Frederick J. Fitzwilliam is far from normal. He sleeps all day, is out at night on business, and talks like he walked out of a regency romance novel. He also leaves Cassie heart-melting notes around the apartment, cares about her art, and asks about her day. And he doesn’t look half bad shirtless, on the rare occasions they’re both home and awake. But when Cassie finds bags of blood in the fridge that definitely weren’t there earlier, Frederick has to come clean…
Cassie’s sexy new roommate is a vampire. And he has a proposition for her.
“I simply do not understand this modern urge to share every errant thought one has with the entire world the instant it happens.”
My Roommate Is A Vampire is a book that has been on my shelf for a little while. I’ve heard mixed things about this book, and so it kind of just sat there on my TBR for a while. After finding myself in a bit of a book slump, I decided to finally pick this one up as I felt like I needed something just a bit fun and nothing too serious. That is exactly what I found with this one. It was a fun read.
My Roommate Is A Vampire follows the story of Cassie, a struggling artist who is looking for a new place to live. When she sees as advert for a really good room in a nice part of town for ridiculously cheap she is initially suspicious about it, but then she can’t help but say yes. Her roommate is very odd, but the more they get to know each other the more she starts to like him.
This book was cute. Was it the best paranormal romance I’ve ever read? Definitely not. But it was exactly what I needed at the time. Cassie and Frederick were comical and it made for a very fast paced and fun read. I really liked the fact that Frederick did in fact act like someone from hundreds of years ago, which is really unusual for this genre. He definitely has not adapted to modern times, and that makes for some hilarious small talk. I’d seen in reviews a lot of things about some misogynistic content in this book, and while I understand where they’re coming from it was no where near as bad as I was expecting. It made sense in the context, and was definitely used as a learning curve for the characters.
I probably wouldn’t re-read this book but it was definitely a fun read for a one time thing. I will however, give the second book in the series a go as it was just cute and fun. If you’re looking for something you’re not going to take too seriously, that’s a bit of paranormal fun with a hint of spice, then I definitely recommend this book. You’d definitely have a fun time with it.
“Do not thing for one moment that you are replaceable, Cassie Greenberg. For you are anything but.”
