One groundbreaking discovery…will change everything.
Welcome to ‘QUANTUM RADIO’, A.G. Riddle’s first new novel in almost two years – a spell-binding epic filled with science, history, and enough plot twists to keep you up late into the night.
On September 10th, 2008, the Large Hadron Collider began operating at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. It was – and still is – the largest machine ever built. It has a simple purpose: to examine the smallest building blocks of the universe. That work could solve the greatest scientific mysteries of all time: the nature of space and time itself and the origins of our universe.
Recently, the Large Hadron Collider was upgraded. Today, it has the ability to detect sub-atomic particles researchers have never seen before. Some of those particles hid a secret, a revelation that will rewrite our very understanding of the universe.
A few days ago, a quantum physicist working at CERN made an incredible discovery. Using a computer algorithm, Doctor Ty Vogel identified a pattern in the sub-atomic particles being generated by the LHC. This pattern is a data transmission across space and time – a signal being broadcast by a sort of…quantum radio. That signal – and the message it carries – will change the world forever.
After having read a lot of heavy fantasy books in a row, I finally decided to pick up Quantum Radio. It has been on my TBR since I first heard about this book. While this is not my usual genre of choice, I read AG Riddle’s Lost in Time a few years ago and absolutely loved it, so I was desperate to try one of his other books. While I did enjoy Quantum Radio, I definitely didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I did Lost in Time.
Quantum Radio is about a Quantum Physicist, Ty, who has been working at the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland. He has deciphered some messages coming through and can’t decipher whether these are from a different universe, or a different time but regardless of which it is, this could be the largest scientific discovery of his time. However, after doing a presentation on his research suddenly he finds himself on the run after the government is after him to try and get rid of all of his research. Finding himself in danger, Ty escapes with his research on a thumb drive and determined to find out what it is that the government do not want to be public.
I really liked the premise of this book. It is such a fascinating idea, and honestly AG Riddle did a fantastic job of presenting the science elements of this story in a way that is easily digestible for people who don’t necessarily know much about physics. I felt like this was so well done. While I am a fan of a lot of science related stuff, physics definitely just goes over my head a little bit. So it was great to find that the author had done a fantastic job of making the complex elements, easily understandable. I honestly cannot praise AG Riddle enough for this as it really is not easily done.
After really loving the premise and the first half of this book, I honestly started getting a little bit bored around the half way point. I can’t really pin point what it was that made me mind wander as much but I just started getting a little bit bored and ready to see the ending of this book. It was such a shame as I really enjoyed the first half of the book. I was listening to this one on Audio, so I don’t know whether I just didn’t gel with the narrator as much or what but I found the second half of the book a chore to get through.
Quantum Radio is a fantastic book for anyone who is a fan of Sci-fi Thrillers. It was action packed but for me there were some pacing issues in the middle. I am glad that I finally picked this one up but I am on the fence whether I will try this author’s other works. I might pick some up in the future if they appeal to me but he’s definitely not going to be an auto read author for me. It was a good read and I recommend it for people who want something a little different.

I’m wondering if AG Riddle would be a good match with my Book Club.

I do recommend. This one wasn’t for me as much, but I feel like maybe I would have felt differently if I’d read it. I would highly recommend trying at least Lost in Time. It’s fantastic!
