Update on my 2024 Reading Challenges

As we are getting closer and closer to the end of the year, I have started to look back on my year of reading, and in particular the challenges that I set myself at the beginning of the year. If you want to read more about them all you can check out the post I made in January by clicking HERE.

My main challenge was to read 52 books. There were times in the past few months where I didn’t think I would make it. I’m not sure if I ever posted here but my Dad got diagnosed with cancer in September and all of my reading took a nosedive, as I just really wasn’t feeling up to reading. Having said that, even with the horrific last quarter of 2024, I did in fact make it and as I am writing this post (on the 14th of December) I have finished 54 books so I am just over. HURRAY!!

In addition to this I set myself 4 main challenges:

Finish A Series Challenge

I have in fact finished a number of series this year, and I have just taken off a few series that I have decided that I am not going to finish (more on that coming in a separate post on Friday). I am however finishing the year with 67 currently reading series. I’d hoped that this number would be less than 60 but never mind. I have however finished the following series so I am super happy about this…

  • Letters of Enchantment by Rebecca Ross
  • Deathless by Namina Forna
  • Her Majesty’s Royal Coven by Juno Dawson
  • Graves Glen by Erin Sterling
  • The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa

RARE Edinburgh Challenge

I had a challenge going to read a load of books by authors attending RARE Edinburgh and I am happy to say out of my 32 books, I read 28 of them!

Read 12 Books Recommended by 12 Friends

Sadly, I epically failed this challenge, and only managed to read 4 of these, however some of them are being carried over into the 2025 version of this challenge. More coming on this at the end of the month.

ARC Catch Up Challenge

When I started the year, I had 78 of pre-2024 ARCs. Which is a hell of a lot. However, I have cleared out a lot of these. Some of them I read, some of them I just decided that since I got the ARC from Edelweiss that I no longer use, I’d just wipe them from my TBR. So now, I have 64. It’s still a lot but it’s smaller than 78 so I’m happy with that.

So that’s how I did this year. I will be doing the same challenges in 2025, so keep an eye out on details on these coming soon.
