What’s the worst thing that can happen to a werewolf? Unable to shift for three months, Mateo Cruz knows all too well. His wolf has taken up residence in his head, taunting him night and day with vividly violent and carnal thoughts. Convinced he’s cursed, he needs the help of a powerful witch before he literally goes insane.Evie Savoie has always obeyed the house rules of her coven — no werewolves. They’re known for being moody and volatile. So, when a distempered, dangerous werewolf strolls into the bar and almost strangles one of her late-night customers, she’s ready to bounce him through the door. But the desperation in his eyes when he begs her to help him softens her heart and convinces her to bend the rules.
What Evie doesn’t know is that Mateo’s wolf has a mind of his own. And now that she’s in his sights, he wants only one thing. Her.
Wolf Gone Wild is a book I have had on my radar for quite a while. One of my closest friends absolutely adores everything about this series and has been recommending it to me for months. While at RARE Edinburgh in September, I decided to pick the first book in the Stay A Spell Series up and I was super excited to give it a go. I’m so glad I finally picked this one up, as I really enjoyed it. This is a super fun paranormal romance filled to the brim with every supernatural creature you can think of. This one was definitely up my street.
At the start of Wolf Gone Wild, I have to admit I wasn’t completely sold on it. I often struggle with super possessive love interests in books, so some of the comments made early on by Mateo’s wolf got my hackles up a bit. But as I persevered and saw that these comments were strictly coming from the animalistic werewolf side of him, and not his human side, my inner feminist calmed down and I started to really enjoy it.
There was so much I loved about this book. One of the things being that the main characters were in their late 30s. Honestly, this will always be a huge plus for me. I love seeing romance books with characters at a bit of a later stage in life. I also loved how both characters were still total nerds, and showed that excited fangirl side of themselves, even being a fully fledged adult. I loved that, as I feel like so many people think that once you’re a fully grown adult you can’t have those fun hobbies and show a childlike excitement, so I absolutely loved to see all of that in this one.
Wolf Gone Wild was a fantastic start to what I’m sure will be an amazing series. I am so excited to read more and see the love stories of the other witches. There’s so many supernatural creatures in this book, that I am really looking forward to seeing some of them take more of a centre stage in the upcoming books. I will definitely be continuing this series, and I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves a good, fun-loving paranormal romance.
