From Goodreads:
I have a heart for every year I’ve been alive.

There are seventeen hidden in the sand of my bedroom. Every so often, I claw through the shingle just to check they’re still there. Buried deep and bloody.

Princess Lira is siren royalty and revered across the sea until she is cursed into humanity by the ruthless Sea Queen. Now Lira must deliver the heart of the infamous siren killer or remain a human forever.

Prince Elian is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world and captain to a deadly crew of siren hunters. When he rescues a drowning woman from the ocean, she promises to help him destroy sirenkind for good. But he has no way of knowing whether he can trust her …

To Kill A Kingdom is a book that has been on my bookcase for such a long time. I remember picking this one up not long after it released and then, story of my life, it just sat there unread for years and years. After seeing the author is attending things years YALC (2023), I decided it was finally time to pick this one up. Despite me having the physical book on my shelf, I decided to listen to this one on audiobook as I also had the audio edition. I absolutely loved everything about this book. It’s such a fun and fabulous read.

To Kill A Kingdom follows the story of Lira. She is a Siren Princess and is cursed to lose her siren song from her mother, the big bad of this book. She needs to kill a male without her siren song to be allowed back home, and she finds solace in Prince Elian, a human who is chasing down a long lost artifact that just might help Lira save her people. However… can a siren and a siren hunter work together?

I really loved this book. It really felt like The Little Mermaid but with murderous Sirens and I just loved that little twist. It has a definite Little Mermaid feel in the rest of the tale: human prince and princess of the sea… losing of the voice, it’s just that this time it’s her siren song so she can’t still physically talk, which I loved.

I found Alexandra’s writing so easy to read and easy to get lost in. I am obsessed with sea related books, whether that be mermaids, pirates… whatever. I just love them and this one truly was no different. I absolutely loved every moment of this fantastic book and I will definitely be checking out Alexandra’s other works in the future. If you want a nice easy YA read to just sit back and enjoy the ride on, I highly recommend this one. It’s fantastic.
