My 5 Favourite YA Sci-Fi Books
I’ve always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with sci-fi books. I personally absolutely love sci-fi related books, but with some adult sci-fi books I find that they are very science-heavy and I lose a little bit of interest when the science elements are too intense. What I found was an absolute love of young adult sci-fi books. It has all the aspects of the sci-fi books that I love while having a little bit less of the super intense elements. So, if you are wanting to start getting into sci-fi books, here at 5 of the YA ones that I absolutely love and would recommend to anyone.
The Host by Stephanie Meyer was the very first sci-fi book that I read, and it is still to this day one of my very favourites. I first picked this one up due to my love of Twilight and I ended up loving this one so much more. Almost 20 years later, and I still wish she had spent time writing more books in this series than Twilight. If you haven’t read this one, it is the perfect start to sci-fi books.
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is without a doubt my favourite sci-fi series of all time. This one is such a unique series and it started off my absolute obsession with everything Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. This series is told through text messages and reports which makes it such a fun read. If you are an audiobook lover, I highly recommend the audio editions of this series as well. They are my favourite audiobooks of all time.
Nyxia by Scott Reintgen is a YA sci-fi that follows a group of kids who are taken up to space and trained to mine a substance called Nyxia. It’s very much a dystopia kind of sci-fi and I absolutely loved it. As a trilogy it is the perfect series length to me, and I am absolutely in love with it. I highly recommend this one, and I will definitely be reading some more of Scott Reintgen’s other works in the future.
Light Years by Kass Morgan is a fantastic YA sci-fi duology from the author of The 100. As a big fan of The 100 TV show, I was very excited to read something new by Kass Morgan and I absolutely loved Light Years. It is fast paced and action packed. I haven’t yet read book 2, but it is on my immediate TBR.
Finally I had to include Mindwalker by Kate Dylan. This book is one that I only just read last week but I couldn’t put it down. It’s a dystopia type sci-fi with a huge focus on technological advances which I loved. I find these storylines so intriguing because they’re so realistic of where our society could potentially go in the future.

I read The Host and have watched the film and loved both. I agree that I wished she had written more books like this.
