From Goodreads:
Nadia gets the 7.30 train every morning without fail. Well, except if she oversleeps or wakes up at her friend Emma’s after too much wine.Daniel really does get the 7.30 train every morning, which is easy because he hasn’t been able to sleep properly since his dad died.
One morning, Nadia’s eye catches sight of a post in the daily paper:
To the cute girl with the coffee stains on her dress. I’m the guy who’s always standing near the doors… Drink sometime?
So begins a not-quite-romance of near-misses, true love, and the power of the written word.
“Babe – healing isn’t linear. And look how far you’ve come.”
Our Stop isn’t a book that I have been aware of for very long. I think I picked the audio edition of this one up in one of Audibles 2 for 1 sales, and man… I am so glad that I did because I freaking loved everything about this book. If you’re a big lover of will they/won’t they romances then I highly, highly recommend this one. Our Stop is hilarious and just utterly swoon worthy. I really loved every single moment of it.
Our Stop is a fast-paced, laugh out loud read. I can’t even tell you how fast I raced through this book. I absolutely love the whole trope of people falling in love via letters before they have even met and this book has that in the form of a newspaper column where people can write in about people they’ve seen on the tube / public transport. Our main characters get the same train and Daniel, the lead guy writes in about his crush that he has seen on their train, and so begins this back and forth between Nadia and Daniel through this column.
I loved the build up and the tension in this book. The characters don’t meet in person for a good long while and while I know this will be a frustration for many readers… I love a slow burn romance and I was living for every near miss, when they almost bumped into each other… but didn’t. It was wrote in such a fun and superb way that you just cannot put the book down… or in my case, stop listening. The audio edition is narrated by Carrie Hope Fletcher and she did a phenomenal job. I absolutely loved her narration and how she brought the characters to life. She really did add a little extra magic to this book, and so if you are a fan of audiobooks I definitely recommend this one.
One of the things I adored about this book was the fact that the characters were in their very late 20s and early 30s. I find nowadays with romance books, the characters are always 22 or 23 and they meet the love of their life at this age, and then everything is just perfect. It was really refreshing for me to pick up a book where the characters were in the next stage of life before meeting ‘the one’. I felt like that was a really great aspect of this book. It also allowed some more serious matters to be discussed because of the characters having had a bit more life experience. While this book is adorable and a super cute romance, it still tackles some very serious issues within the main characters and the side characters. You have characters who have been in abusive relationships and you see how they are trying to move on from that. It also tackles the very common issue of rape and consent when a person is very drunk, which I thought was handled very very well and really opens up the topic for discussion with the characters. I really liked that about this book, but it is worth checking on trigger warnings because of these serious issues that are also explored.
Our Stop is adorable in every possible way. If you are looking for a romance to lift your spirits, then look no further. This is the perfect book for you! I honestly cannot recommend this one enough. It was just utterly brilliant and will definitely be one that I will re-read (or re-listen to) in the future.
“She once heard that love shouldn’t be called ‘falling’, because the best love roots you, and makes you grow upwards, taller and stronger.”
