Chunky Books That Are Worth It

People either love chunky books or hate them. I’m on the firm side of love them, but even I can feel intimidated by a super long book. So here are a few from my shelves, that not only did I love, but that I think are absolutely worth reading.

This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi is a YA Fantasy that sits at 512 pages. It’s the first book in a series, with the second book releasing imminently. That does mean that it is an incomplete series, but I absolutely loved this one and I can’t wait to read book 2. You can check out my review of this one by clicking here.

Threadneedle by Cari Thomas is an Adult Fantasy that sits at 576. It’s more urban fantasy than epic fantasy and is set in the secret streets of London. I fell head over heels in love with this one and Cari’s writing is just magical. It is an incomplete series. You can check out my review of this one by clicking here.

Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff is an Adult Fantasy with dystopia vibes and vampires. It sits at 739 pages, making it the longest book on this list. It’s dark and bloody and just phenomenal. It can feel slow in the places but it is absolutely worth plodding on through those parts because it’s just amazing. The audiobook is also incredible! City of Brass by SA Chakraborty is an Adult Epic Fantasy with jinn and magic and action. It’s the first in a completed trilogy, with book one sitting at 544 pages, and is one of my favourite series of all time. I adore absolutely everything about this series, and since it is complete now is the perfect time to binge read the entire thing. All three books and chunky, but you don’t even notice as you are just taken away on the journey of your life. You can check out my review of this one by clicking here.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi is a YA Fantasy that I absolutely fell head over heels in love with years ago when it first released. It is 544 pages and it is an incomplete series, we are still waiting on the third and final book but I absolutely cannot wait. You can read my review of this one by clicking here.

Bonus Book: Angel Burn by LA Weatherly is a YA Paranormal Romance from back in the 2010 era. I’m slightly cheating with this one as it sits at 449 pages, but book 2 is over 700 so I’m counting it. It’s a phenomenal series where angels are evil and are hunting people and a half angel and an angel killer need to work together. I absolutely adore everything about this series and cannot recommend it enough. This one is published as Angel Burn in the US but just Angel in the UK. You can check out my review of this one by clicking here. (Note that my review is of the UK edition and so the cover looks different on the review page).

I was looking at Threadneedle the other day. My goal for 2023 is to get through Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series. I don’t think those are particularly long but I have the omnibus. I remember reading George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire in an omnibus Kindle and for 3 days of reading when I could the darned thing didn’t go past 29%. That’s when I realized it wasn’t in the book. It was in the entire omnibus.
