Recommendations: Books Set in a School
It’s September… Here in the UK that means it is back to school. As a teacher myself, that means I’m going to be ridiculously busy over the next couple of weeks. However, it has got me thinking back on some of my favourite books and series that are set in school. As a big YA lover, there are many old school series that I loved that are set in school… so here are my favourite books set in a school.
All five of these are real old school series that I read in the early 2010s and I just fell in love with each and every one of them.
- Vampire Academy, Book 1 in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. The new TV adaptation of this one is coming out soon, so it is the absolute perfect time to discover this phenomenal YA Paranormal Romance series. I read this one before I started blogging and so there are no reviews of this series, however I am intending on re-reading these at some point so look for some reviews coming soon.
- Obsidian, Book 1 in the Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout. This was the first JLA book I read back in 2011 and it started my obsession with her wonderful work. The obsession that is still here to this day, 11 years later! The final book of the spin off series is due to release late next year (I believe, there’s no release date yet) so it’s the perfect chance to start this incredible ‘out of this world’ story. - Touch of Frost, Book 1 in the Mythos Academy series by Jennifer Estep. This is one of my favourite series of all time, and I feel like it is so underrated. Hardly anyone ever talks about this one and that makes me utterly heartbroken. It’s like a boarding school for the Gods. It’s amazing. You can check out my spoiler free review of Touch of Frost by clicking here.
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling. Now I know we don’t support JK anymore because she’s kind of a shitty person… but this series was my entire childhood and nothing can ease my love of this series. It is absolutely everything to me, and so no list about books set in a school would be complete without a mention of Hogwarts. You can check out my spoiler free review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone review here.
- Perfect Chemistry, Book 1 of the Perfect Chemistry series by Simone Elkeles. This is such a cute YA contemporary romance and I remember this being the first book I ever read in one sitting. I just loved every single second of it. If you like YA romance, this one is a must-read. You can check out my spoiler free review of Perfect Chemistry by clicking here.
I am determined to get more into some Dark Academia as I really miss reading school-setting books. What books set in an educational setting do you love?
