Do You Add DNF’d Books Back On Your TBR?
It’s something I’ve seen quite a lot on some bookish groups online lately. So many people saying that when they put a book down and DNF it, it goes back on their TBR to try again at a later date. This is a totally weird and bizarre thing to me. So I am super curious how many people actually do this.
I am such a quick DNF’er. My TBR is so enormous, and is constantly growing, and I have so little reading time as a full time teacher, that if I am not enjoying a book by about page 50… it’s a goner. Once I have DNF’d a book, then it’s gone forever. I don’t put it back on my TBR unless it’s a very special case. Once I’ve made my mind up about a book, that’s it… I am not changing that opinion for anything. If I have put it down once as I wasn’t enjoying it… I will have absolutely no intention or motivation to pick it up at any point in the future.
Now, I’ll be honest there are one or two very specific cases where I have put them back on my TBR. The first is the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor. I read this one years ago, loved the first book… found the second book okay… and DNF’d the third. I have recently put this book back on my TBR after seeing so many people loving it. Back when I read this series, I wasn’t a huge fantasy lover… so now that it’s the main genre I read, I feel like I might like it a little more. So I am willing to give it another go. Likewise Red Rising by Pearce Brown is another one that has made its way back to my TBR. I actually DNF’d the audio edition of this book and I feel like I might really enjoy it if I am reading it physically. Other than these two specific cases, I never really add DNF’d books back on my TBR.
So what about you? Do you give DNF’d books another go?

Depends. If I just got bored with the book then I’ll probably give it a try after a while, especially if it’s a friend’s recommendation. If I didn’t actually like or connect with the story and characters in the first 10 chapters or so it’s not coming back.

Well there are two DNFs for me. If I DNF because I don’t like it, I am not going to try again. If I DNF because I am not in the mood (welcome to mood reading) then yes I will try it later.

I do some times if I know that I DNF it because of my mood versus not liking it.
