Jay Crownover’s New York Times and USA Today bestselling Marked Men series continues with the much anticipated story of southern charmer and certified criminal Asa Cross.Starting over in Denver with a whole new circle of friends and family, Asa Cross struggles with being the man he knows everyone wants him to be and the man he knows he really is. A leopard doesn’t it change its spots and Asa has always been a predator. He doesn’t want to hurt those who love and rely on him, especially one luscious arresting cop who suddenly seems to be interested in him for far more than his penchant for breaking the law. But letting go of old habits is hard, and it’s easy to hit bottom when it’s the place you know best.
Royal Hastings is quickly learning what the bottom looks like after a tragic situation at work threatens not only her career but her partner’s life. As a woman who has only ever had a few real friends she’s trying to muddle through her confusion and devastation all alone. Except she can’t stop thinking about the sexy southern bartender she locked up. Crushing on Asa is the last thing she needs but his allure is too strong to resist. His long criminal record can only hurt her already shaky career and chasing after a guy who has no respect for the law or himself can only end in heartbreak.
A longtime criminal and a cop together just seems so wrong . . . but for Asa and Royal, being wrong together is the only right choice to make.
“Eventually we all need someone to try and save us; even if they fail, the fact that someone tried might be what matters most in the end.”
This series is one that has been on my ongoing series list for years. I started reading the Marked Men series back in 2014 when I was in my Contemporary obsession. I loved this series right from the first book but for some reason I just never got around to finishing it. I finally decided to listen to the audiobook of Asa, in a bid to finish some of my ongoing series. I am so glad I finally picked up Asa as I really enjoyed every moment of this one.
Asa will definitely appeal to a lot of people. Asa is the epitome of bad boy. He’s been in trouble with the law and he is falling in love for Royal… a police officer. It’s a recipe for disaster… or is it so wrong that it is right?
I really enjoyed Asa. I’d already fallen in love with him and Royal as characters when they had appeared in the previous books and was already rooting for them to end up together. It was so amazing to see them finally get their own story. A romance between an ex-convict and a cop… it was filled to the brim with drama and it was perfect! I loved every single drama filled moment. I loved how we got to see them finally get their happy ever after while still getting to see all of the previous couples from the other books. It’s one thing I absolutely loved about this series, we never really get rid of the original characters.
Asa was a fantastic ending to this series and I am so glad I finally read it. Although I don’t love Contemporary novels like I used to, I did enjoy every moment of this. It was a fantastic palate cleanser from all the high fantasy books I usually read. I will definitely be checking out the spin off series to this one sometime in the future.
““The cop and the criminal. Who would have ever seen that coming?”
“I saw it from a mile away…and you’re a reformed criminal.”
“I stole your heart, didn’t I?”
“I stole yours first, Asa.”
“You can’t take something that was yours all along, Red.”
