From Goodreads:
They took too much. Left too little. I had nothing to lose…until him.
I didn’t expect him. I didn’t want to fall in love. But I can’t let him go.

Logan Bennett makes the world a safer place. He’s brilliant. He’s a hero. He locks away the sick and depraved. But while he’s saving lives, I’m taking them. Collecting the debts that are owed to me.

Ten years ago, they took from me. They left me for dead. They should have made sure I stayed dead. Now I’m taking from them. One name at a time. I’ve trained for too long. I’ve been patient. I can’t stop now. Revenge is best served cold…

They never see me coming, until I paint their walls red. Logan doesn’t know how they hurt me. He doesn’t know about the screams they ignored. He doesn’t know how twisted that town really is. He just knows people are dying. He doesn’t know he’s in love with their killer. No one suspects a dead girl. And Logan doesn’t suspect the girl in his bed.

They’re looking for a monster. Not a girl who loves red. Not a girl in love. I’m a faceless nightmare. At least until I tell them the story they’ve pretended never happened. But in the end, will Logan choose them? Or will we watch them burn together?

“Life sucks. Then you die. Might as well live while you’re still alive.”

Holy! Shit!
I have been in one hell of a book slump for almost a month. Nothing I was reading was really grabbing my attention. I had never heard of the Mindf*ck series before, but a good friend of mine recommended this as it’s a series of novellas, so they’re nice quick reads; and they are a different genre to what I would usually read. I decided to give them a go and oh my goodness!! This series is so freaking amazing. I am shocked that it is not as well known on the blogosphere.

The Risk follows Lana, a girl with a troubled past and she is out for revenge! She wants everyone to pay for what they did to her. One of the things that makes this novella so intriguing is that we don’t actually know the extent of what happened to her. We just know she was abused, sexually, when she was 16 and she is out to make the perpetrators suffer and put an end to their lives! That’s right… she’s a serial killer! She is part way into her list of victims when she meets Logan, FBI Profiler who is trying to find the serial killer… of her crimes.

The Risk is phenomenal. I couldn’t put it down. Right away I loved Lana. She’s such an easy character to love and while you’re reading you have a moment where you’re like hold on… this character is a serial killer who is hunting people down. That’s a terrible thing… but then you get flashbacks from that night giving you just a hint of the full story and you are totally on board with what she is doing. I spent a lot of time while reading this novella, preying that Logan wouldn’t find out it was her, because I wanted to be there on her journey of vengeance.

The Risk is super quick and super addictive. It’s 100% a romantic thriller and it is absolutely one thrill of a ride. When I picked this novella up, I had every intention of just reading the first one and leaving it at that. But I immediately went and bought the next one and I can’t wait to dive in. Especially after that shock of an ending. I highly, highly recommend The Risk to anyone!

“Come back in one piece no matter what you have to do in order to make that happen. That’s the only thing I’ll ever expect. Survive.”
