Favourite Naked Hardbacks
As a self-obsessed book nerd, I am always completely in love with the aesthetic of a good book. I am a sucker for a beautiful cover, sprayed edges and all the other beautiful things you find on a gorgeous edition of a book. There is one thing, above all others, that I am completely and utterly in love with. Embossing and patterns on the naked hardback. When I’m reading a hardback book I always take the dust jacket off so it doesn’t get bent or damaged. As my book has the dust-jacket off while reading, I absolutely adore it when there is a pattern or design on the naked hardback. It’s just so aesthetically pleasing to see some sort of embossing or foil. In this post I am sharing with you my top 10 naked hardbacks from my collection.

- Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Wuthering Heights is quite possibly my favourite book of all time and I am just in love with this edition. It is the most beautiful one I have come across. I actually own about 3 or 4 editions of this book and this one is my favourite. For one thing it has such stunning colours on it. Usually covers of this book are quite dark and dramatic so I love that it’s a little bit lighter than usual. In addition, I love the depiction of the moors which is such a central part of this book.
- Caraval by Stephanie Garber. This is the UK ‘clock’ edition. When Caraval released, the UK publisher did numerous designs under the dust cover. In addition to this one there were editions with a top hat, a dress and others. I have the clock version and I love it. The clock is included in gold foil. It’s so shiny and pretty. As well as this gorgeous foil it has this sort of magical dust like design coming off the clock which I adore. It gives it a very magical feel.
- Splintered by AG Howard. Splintered is one of my favourite series to have on hardcover. I love the gorgeous design of the title embossed and in red foil on the naked hardback. It’s so beautiful. As well as this, I love that the text inside the hardback of this series is printed in the colour of the cover which I think is really cool.
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The US edition of The Hunger Games has a gorgeous symbol embossed on the naked hardcover which I love. In this case it has Katniss’ mockingjay pin embossed on there and I absolutely love that. It’s a lovely touch to one of my favourite books and it is this detail that made me order the US hardbacks of the entire series.

- Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth. I haven’t read this book yet however I just adore the foil design under the dust cover. It’s a kind of copper coloured foil design. The vast majority of foil embossing is gold or silver. So I absolutely loved this one because it’s copper and a little different to other naked hardbacks.
- In The Time We Lost by Carrie Hope Fletcher. This is another one that I haven’t read yet but I love the design under the cover. Most naked hardbacks are black; even the ones that have designs on. Alternatively, this one is a bright pink. It’s very vibrant and smooth to the touch as well. I really love this one as it’s very different from other naked hardbacks that I have.
- The Deathless Girls by Kiran Millwood Hargrave. This particular edition is the Waterstones edition. I am unsure whether all of the hardbacks are like this but on mine there is some gorgeous foil embossing. It’s beautiful and shiny and I absolutely love it.
- Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry. This particular hardback is the US edition and I am absolutely in love with it. It’s the only series I’ve known where the actual cover is printed in a portrait fashion across the entire book. For example if you open the book and turn it length ways the title falls right in the same place as it does on the ‘official’ cover. I think it’s such a unique and genius design. It’s been one of my all time favourite naked hardbacks for years

- Eve of Man by Giovanna and Tom Fletcher. I am completely and utterly in love with this naked hardback. I love the golden foil on top of the white hardback, it just looks gorgeous. In this case the white and gold just looks gorgeous! When you put the dust-jacket on you can still see part of the design through the cut out. The central symbol comes through and I think that’s just so well designed. It’s definitely one of my favourite naked hardbacks.
- The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant. My edition of this one is the Illumicrate special edition. It just may be my all time favourite naked hardback. It’s rose-gold foil and includes a gorgeous depiction of a snake and dagger. Its just utterly stunning and perfect for this book.
What do you think of naked hardbacks? Do you have any that you would add on to the list?
