From Goodreads:
For some people, silence is a weapon. For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield. Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime. Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.
It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with the lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory faces a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.
The Problem With Forever is one of those books that the moment I
heard about it I needed it in my hands. Why? Because it’s a Jennifer L
Armentrout book and I have just adored every single thing that she has
written and The Problem with Forever is no exception. From the
very start of this book I was completely enamoured with it. It was just
so moving and this may be the most heartbreaking book Jen has written to
date.
Mallory is such an amazing main character and I really sympathised with
her right from the start. I was completely heartbroken for her right
from the beginning of the book and the more I read and realised the
impact of her childhood on her life it just made me want to reach into
the book and just hug her. She is so much stronger that she realises for
dealing with everything she did and I just adore that you can really
see the difference in her at the beginning of the book to her at the
end. She makes such a transformation in this book and it was just
amazing to see.
Rider is 100% one of my favourite JLA boys of all time. I mean he still doesn’t quite replace Aiden St Delphi from the Covenant
series but he is very very close. One thing I loved about this book is
that Rider has a bad past too. I know that’s not good, and I don’t mean I
loved that he was hurting due to his past because it completely broke
my heart, but so many books in this genre have the heroine with the bad
past and the boy comes along and saves her, I loved that Rider shared
that past and needed saving too, he just didn’t know it. It was such a
difference from other books in this genre and I loved that.
The Problem with Forever is without a doubt one of the most
emotional and heartbreaking books I have ever read. It’s utterly
heartbreaking, moving and stunning. Jennifer has done it again. She
drags you in with her amazing writing style, shatters your heart into a
million pieces and then starts to gradually patch it up again. I loved
every moment of it and this is definitely my favourite JLA contemporary
book. It blows all of the others completely out of the water.
If there’s only one YA Contemp that you read this year make sure it is The Problem With Forever.
It was beautiful and perfectly heartbreaking. I loved every moment of
it. It’s definitely a must-read for any JLA fan and lover of YA
Contemporary books. It was soul-destroyingly perfect! Prepare yourself
for the emotional trauma you will experience at the hands of this book.
Every tear is worth this beautiful story.
