November Series Spotlight: Angel Creek by Ada Adams
Now my pick this month is the incredible Angel Creek series by Ada Adams. I found out about this series via the very awesome Keren from Gothic Angel Reviews. I took part in the ReVamped Relay and completely and utterly fell in love with this series. It is one of the most unique fresh twists on the vampire story and one of the best Vamp series out there in my opinion. This series really doesn’t get as much publicity as it really deserves. It is just incredible.
ReVamped (Angel Creek #2) by Ada Adams
My Summery:
ReVamped is the first installment in the Angel Creek series and it follows Dawn, a Born vampire as she is given the task of going to Angel Creek to train the new Guardians. A number of vampires is selected to become the Guardians of Angel Creek and Dawn, being the very capable and kick-ass Vamp she is, believes that it will be a quick and easy job. What she doesn’t expect is for the future Guardians to be a bunch of misfit vampires. Drunk ex-robber Hunter, science nerd Seth, Cheerleader Brooke, quiet librarian Sophie and the mysterious Sebastian have either no interest in becoming a Guardian or are not quite as capable as Dawn thought. But Dawn and the gang may have more important matters to happen and can Dawn keep her feelings for the rude but incredibly gorgeous Sebastian in check to do her job?
This book is just freaking phenomenal. I couldn’t believe how amazing it was. When I picked up ReVamped I honestly was thinking ‘oh no not another vampire book’. I am so ashamed to say that but I thought I had read enough vampire books to last me a lifetime but this book is so unique and creative. No other vampire series quite compares to Angel Creek It is just addictive.
Hi Ada,
Welcome to K-Books. I am so excited to have you here with us today. I absolutely love the Angel Creek series and just had to have it as one of my Series Spotlights of the month.
Hi Kayleigh! Thank you for having me the blog today. I’m very excited to be here!
Where did the idea or inspiration for Angel Creek come from?
I was inspired by our society’s obsession with vampires. I wanted to explore what would happen if, due to our love for them, vampires decided that it was safe to “come out of the coffin” and immerse themselves in our world. However, it wasn’t my goal to tell a story about perfect creatures—there are already so many wonderful books about such beings. My focus was on writing about vampire misfits who weren’t so great at the whole “vamp thing”, and the girl responsible for training them. I wanted to infuse the book with some humor and many twists and turns…I’m all about a windy reading ride!
Initially, I thought that the entire series would be very lighthearted and fun, but as Dawn’s story progresses and the characters grown and develop, I’m finding that the books grow darker and more mature. I think “ReAwakened” is definitely a lot “more”…everything in comparison to “ReVamped”.
Are there any characters that you enjoy writing more than others?
I spend a lot of time with Dawn as she is the main character of the series, so she definitely holds a special place in my heart. The story revolves around her, and I love writing for her, of course. However, I truly enjoy writing for each of the characters—they’re all unique in their own way and it’s a lot of fun to get into their heads!
I love writing Brooke and Seth’s banter and I have a lot of fun with Razor (as do some other ladies, from what I’ve heard!). I really enjoy watching the characters grow and develop as the series progresses.
Are there any particular types of scenes that you enjoy writing more than others?
For some reason, action/fight scenes tend to be my forte. As you know, Dawn kicks a lot of butt (especially in “ReAwakened”), and these scenes always come very naturally to me. This must be because Dawn’s strength comes so naturally to her!
I also love writing kissing scenes between Dawn and Sebastian, although they tend to be a little more difficult for Dawn than the fighting stuff. Why does she do this to me? I often tend to write during the night, so I’ve greeted a few romantic sunrises with the twosome!
How many books do you have planned in the series and when can we expect the upcoming ones?
Currently, there are three books planned, however, “Angel Creek” and its characters have taken on a life of their own. Their story has grown much larger and more complicated than I have originally set out to write, so I’m not sure if the next book really will be the end for our characters.
I’ve already had requests for Hunter and Razor novellas and an entire full-length novel of “just Sebastian kissing scenes” from people who have read “ReAwakened”, so I think the extent of the series’ length will greatly depend on the fans! 🙂 If all goes according to plan, Book III will be out sometime in the first half of 2013.
And finally what can we expect from you when this series is over?
I have a few projects on the backburner, but I’m currently working on a NA Contemporary novel which I’m very excited about. It’s a fun break from the YA Paranormal genre, though I don’t think I’m quite done with paranormal creatures yet!
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about Angel Creek. I cannot wait to read more.
Thank you for having me on your lovely blog! I’m very happy and humbled to hear that you love the series so much! A big hug to your readers! xo
