The past few years held more surprises than part-angel Clara Gardner ever could have anticipated. Yet through the dizzying high of first love to the agonizing low of losing someone close to her, the one thing she could no longer deny was that she was never meant to have a normal life.
Since discovering the special role she plays among the other angel-bloods, Clara has been determined to protect Tucker Avery from the evil that follows her . . . even if it means breaking both their hearts. Leaving town seemed like the best option, so she’s headed back to California—and so is Christian Prescott, the irresistible boy from the vision that started her on this journey in the first place.
As Clara makes her way in a world that is frighteningly new, she discovers that the fallen angel who attacked her is watching her every move. And he’s not the only one. . . . With the battle against the Black Wings looming, Clara knows she must finally fulfil her destiny. But it won’t come without sacrifices and betrayal.
In the riveting finale of the Unearthly series, Clara must choose her fate once and for all.
I’ve honestly thoroughly enjoyed my buddy read of the entire Unearthly Series by Cynthia Hand. It is one that I really missed out on when it first released, and I’m so glad that I finally picked them up. I can’t lie, I was a little bit apprehensive going into Boundless, as I felt like nothing much happened in the second book of the series. I am so happy to say that Boundless was much much better than the previous book. I really enjoyed every moment of this book, and it was so good to see how everything was wrapped up.
I felt like Boundless had a bit of a refresh at the start. We have Clare moving back home to California and starting at University. I feel like this change of setting really felt like a fresh start. Although we were going into the final book of the trilogy, it felt fresh and new and it was definitely what the series needed in my opinion. We get a few new characters, but honestly we still end up sticking to our three main characters.
Boundless was much more fast paced and action packed than the previous book in the series, which was a definite plus for me. I am such a plot driven reader, so I was really happy to see things happening right from the start. I really do feel like this book was more plot than romance, which I know will be an issue for some readers, but it wasn’t for me. I was so invested in Clara’s visions and her training to fight with glory ready for the upcoming fight. It made this book my favourite of the series. I just loved the pacing and how everything was coming together. It made me want to read faster and faster so I could find out what was going to happen next.
My one little gripe for the book was that I did feel like the ending was wrapped up a little too neatly and quickly. I’m not going to say a lot on this in a bid to keep this review spoiler free, but for me we had the conflict resolution and then there was just a nice little chapter wrapping everything up in a neat bow and it was done. I’ve always been the kind of reader who wants a little bit more after the conflict resolution. I do respect that some people may find it boring but I am more than happy to read another 50 or so pages of the characters just adapting back to their lives after everything is over. I want to see them happy and chilled after everything.
The Unearthly Trilogy is such a nostalgic old skool paranormal romance, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m so glad I finally picked this series up. It’s just reinvigorated my love for angel books. I used to love them so much 15 or so years ago, and this has made me want to read them all over again. This was such a fun series, and one I would recommend to all YA lovers.
