A princess desperate to win back the prince who broke her heart follows him to his kingdom’s prestigious military academy—and in doing so, falls in love, saves the realm, and continues to look fabulous in this delightful debut fantasy.

Domhnall and Clía are an ideal match—or so everyone says. They are prince and princess of neighboring kingdoms. An alliance the gods will smile on. Until Domhnall ruins everything by refusing to propose.

Heartbroken but determined, Clía makes the perfect plan: Follow Domhnall to Caisleán Cósta, the military academy he’s attending. Show she can protect her kingdom. Secure the betrothal. Sure, the castle has a brutal reputation. But how hard can dueling really be?

Warrior Ronan promised himself he’d never lose his focus. He fought and sacrificed for his place at Caisleán Cósta, and he has no time for blonde princesses who waltz intro arenas like they’re attending a ball. Even if she and her otter-like pet are…well, cute.

He doesn’t want to be intrigued by Clía. But her hunger to prove herself is something he understands. He tells himself there’s no harm training her. Even if his heart does race around her. Even if Domhnall is his best friend.

But as they say, love is a battlefield—and unfortunately for them all, a very real war is looming on the horizon. It’s a fight that will threaten all their kingdoms…and test all their hearts.

“There was no greater way to better oneself outside of reading.”

The Princess Knight was a book that has been on my radar for a while, ever since my bookish bestie told me about it and said it’s being dubbed as Legally Blonde… but with princesses and knights and honestly that just sounded like everything I could possibly want. I really loved everything about this book. Despite it being quite a chunky read, I absolutely flew through it. It’s really cute, fun and overall just a really enjoyable time.

The Princess Knight follows Clia, a princess who has resigned herself to her fate of marrying Domhnall. It’s the best thing for her kingdom… what does it matter if it’s not a love match. But when Domhnall rejects the betrothal saying he needs someone stronger to be his queen, Clia is panicked. What will she do to protect her kingdom without the betrothal? So she follows him to Caislean Costa, a military academy. Despite the fact that she decided to come to the academy to win back Prince Domhnall, Clia soon finds herself just wanting to protect her kingdom at all costs, regardless of whether she is successful at winning her prince back or not.

I really enjoyed everything about this book. It really does have Legally Blonde vibes, particularly at the start of the book. But honestly, it definitely becomes it’s whole own thing. One thing I really enjoyed was seeing Clia go from this spoilt princess from a kingdom that has buried their heads in the sand about real issues coming to their shores, to this absolute kickass knight who will jump into danger to do what’s right. Honestly the character development throughout this book is phenomenal. I also really loved seeing Clia’s training. I have read another book this year with a potential female knight, and my biggest gripe was that we didn’t see enough of the knight training. I had no such complaints in this book. We see it all. From Clia’s unsuccessful first duel, to her training with the very handsome royal guard, to her saving everyone in the thick of battle. I adored every single moment of it.

The Princess Knight is fast paced and action packed and honestly I couldn’t put it down. It really was so addictive. I loved the character arcs, the slow burn romance… everything was just superbly done for me. My one small gripe was that I did get a little bit confused with some characters and which countries they hailed from in the beginning. The names of both characters and countries are complex and I got a little but lost in the start as to who was who. I could have done with a character list etc to help this out. But once I got further in to the book, this did become a little bit easier to digest.

I would definitely recommend The Princess Knight to anyone who loves fantasy. I do think this book is light on the fantasy elements. It’s set in a new fantasy world but there is no magical elements present so it’s worth noting that before going in. Honestly though it was a fantastic read and I will definitely be looking out for more work from Cait Jacobs in the future. She is definitely an author to keep an eye on!

“You once told me I wasn’t strong enough to be your queen. I hope you realise the truth now. I’m more that a ‘pretty face’. I’m more than someone you can toss aside like nothing. I am more than you.”

Yes! I’ve been waiting for your review! And your review didn’t disappoint. I love that you could see the elements of Legally Blonde but see how that got buried in Clia’s story of becoming a Knight in her own right and being able to defend herself not just physically, but emotionally. She’s now able to set boundaries and speak her mind whereas before she was so timid. If you want, ping me on Instagram. Although my nose is going to be in my books for the next 4 weeks! Once again, too many ARCs!
