Bookish

My Time At RARE Edinburgh 2024

It’s been just over a week since I spent the weekend in Edinburgh for this years Romance Author and Reader Event (RARE). I had attended one RARE event previously, way back in 2016 and I was so excited to spend the weekend surrounded by everything bookish. I had the best weekend, so here’s some of the things I got up to during the RARE weekend.

The People

I attended RARE with some of my bookish besties, Hannah, Olivia and Jess. While I knew many other people attending… and I really mean many… I didn’t see a single one of them. The event was so ridiculously busy and hectic I barely saw anyone other than the authors. I need to make sure next year I definitely prioritise seeing all my bookish friends too. In my defence, the event was a 2 day even and I could only attend the final hour of the first day due to my work schedule, and so I was running around like a crazy person on the second day. Even these pictures were taken while waiting for an uber at the end of the second day.

The Authors

I met so many amazing authors this weekend. The highlight for me was definitely getting to hug the amazing Hannah McBride after having been a reader for her since her debut. In addition to that, I loved chatting with Rebecca Yarros. She is such a Romantasy queen and I love her. I didn’t get to see everyone unfortunately. I’d really hoped that I would make it in time to see Maria V Snyder on the Friday but she was super busy so I had to cut my losses and miss out on her line. Hopefully I will get to see her at a future event.

The Books

I was honestly so good at RARE. I keep seeing everyone’s 50+ book hauls and I am super proud of how reserved I was. I had preordered 4 books before the event, and I ended up just buying a couple while there. So here is my very small haul! I also have a video up on my TikTok with this haul.

The City

While my trip was purely for a book convention, I can’t post this wrap up without showing you a few snaps of the gorgeous city of Edinburgh. I adore Scotland and attending this in the very start of Autumn was beautiful. I love everything about this stunning gothic city, and I can’t wait to go again.

Thank you RARE for an amazing weekend. I am counting down to RARE London 25!
