A River Enchanted Readalong Week 1: My Thoughts
I posted on Tuesday about my plan to join in the readalong for A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross that she is hosting on her Instagram. Well, I decided to blog my opinions as I read each section, and then will end it all with a spoiler free review at the end. Warning for these readalong posts they will be filled with spoilers so read on only if you have read the book, or don’t mind spoilers. You have been warned.
This week we have read Part 1 which is chapters 1-9. This is about 150 pages and according to goodreads 33% of the book. This is my first book by Rebecca Ross so I can’t really compare it to any of her other work but oh my word… I am a fan!
My initial thought was that the chapters are pretty long. I don’t mind long chapters, but I do love shorter chapters. At first I did notice the chapter length as I was just starting to get into it, but as I got into it more and more and became more and more intrigued, I didn’t notice. I just raced through these chapters. I am so obsessed with this storyline already. I love that there are fae spirits in there. It’s very reminiscent of Scottish folklore and I absolutely adore it. I love the idea of the different clans who can use magic and are opposed to each other. I loved the whole musical aspect and the fact that Jack is a bard. I love it!
Who decided to end out first week there? Oh! My! Fucking! God! I cannot believe it ended there. I am shocked and horrified and I need to read more. How the hell am I going to wait a week? And it is a full week because I blasted through all 9 chapters in one sitting. This book is so addictive and good. The young girls going missing makes me think of the whole fae changelings stealing children folklore, but also we now know it is a human masked in shadow who is taking them. Who is it? I bet it’s a Breccon!! And how the hell is Torin going to react? Poor Torin, as if he hasn’t gone through enough. I literally cannot wait to read more.
Kayleigh’s Theories
My theories centre around who Jack’s father is. I feel like it’s such an important part of the story, or it will be. Initially my thought was that is could be fae spirit, but now I am thinking that he is possibly a Breccon, and that there will be a romance that kicks up between Jack and Adaira and that their pairing could potentially stop the curses between both of the clans?
Look out for my thoughts on part 2 next week! I can’t wait to continue.
