From Goodreads:
An enchanting new novella set in the magical world of Sunday Times bestseller Threadneedle.
Rowan is visiting her aunt – Winne the hedge witch – in the Welsh countryside, to get back to nature and hone her skills, as well as taking a break from her annoying sisters and enjoying some peace and quiet. However, Rowan soon comes to realise that hedges are a serious business and this isn’t quite the opportunity to rest and escape she thought it might be.

Not only that, but mysterious events around the town are causing panic in the secret magical community and cowans – non-magical folk – are starting to take notice.

Can Rowan hone her hedge craft, try to make some friends and solve the riddle of the mysterious goings-on, or is magic about to be revealed to the world … or at least Wales?

I read Threadneedle last year, after hearing it was about witches. I never used to like books with witches, and I don’t know what changed but now I am utterly obsessed with them. So I had to dive right into Threadneedle when it released, and I absolutely loved it. One of my favourite characters from Threadneedle was Rowan, she is such a relatable character, and so I was so excited when Cari published a novella all about Rowan. I couldn’t wait to dive into The Hedge Witch, and I’m so glad I did. This was such a fun and sweet novella.

The Hedge Witch follows Rowan, before the events of Threadneedle as she goes to spend her summer holiday with her kooky aunt Winnie. I loved Winnie, she literally lives in a hedge. Her cottage is completely covered in a hedge and I loved how bizarre and crazy she was. I love bizarre characters, I swear they are my spirit animals. I loved her relationship with Rowan and how it grows stronger and stronger throughout the novella.

I did feel like The Hedge Witch was a little slow to start, but once we started hearing about all the spells that were going wrong in town, and trying to figure out what was happening, it really did pick up. Did I like it as much as Threadneedle? No, I didn’t. But it is a cute and fun read and at just 125 pages, perfect for bumping up those reading challenges. It made me kind of emotional towards the end and it’s just made me so much more excited for the second Threadneedle book.
