One Christmas wish, two brothers, and a lifetime of hope are on the line for hapless Maelyn Jones in In a Holidaze, the quintessential holiday romantic novel by Christina Lauren, the New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners. It’s the most wonderful time of the year…but not for Maelyn Jones. She’s living with her parents, hates her going-nowhere job, and has just made a romantic error of epic proportions.
But perhaps worst of all, this is the last Christmas Mae will be at her favorite place in the world—the snowy Utah cabin where she and her family have spent every holiday since she was born, along with two other beloved families. Mentally melting down as she drives away from the cabin for the final time, Mae throws out what she thinks is a simple plea to the universe: Please. Show me what will make me happy.
The next thing she knows, tires screech and metal collides, everything goes black. But when Mae gasps awake…she’s on an airplane bound for Utah, where she begins the same holiday all over again. With one hilarious disaster after another sending her back to the plane, Mae must figure out how to break free of the strange time loop—and finally get her true love under the mistletoe.
Jam-packed with yuletide cheer, an unforgettable cast of characters, and Christina Lauren’s trademark hijinks, this swoon-worthy romantic read will make you believe in the power of wishes and the magic of the holidays.
I’m not typically a Contemporary/Romance reader, but after finding myself in a reading slump, and unable to get into anything fantasy I decided to pick up some holiday romances. After seeing some friends rave over this one, I finally picked up In A Holidaze… and oh my goodness I am so freaking glad that I did. This book was everything I didn’t know I wanted to read right now. It was completely perfect!
In A Holidaze follows Mae, a woman in her mid-20s who is not happy. She’s working at a job that makes her miserable, she has no love life to speak of and she’s leaving ‘the cabin’ the place they visit for Christmas every year and the one place that makes her happy, for the final time. But suddenly fate intervenes as Mae finds herself in a time loop playing the final vacation over and over again. She doesn’t know how to escape, but as she lives the week over and over she realises maybe… she just needs to do what makes her happy.
I loved everything about this book. One of my favourite concepts is a Groundhog Day like time loop. I love seeing the characters relive things again and seeing what changes and how they get out of it. I adored every moment of this book. It’s super cute and romantic and just downright adorable. I couldn’t put it down.
This was my first book by author duo Christina Lauren, and let me tell you, I am officially a fan. Right from the start I found their writing style to be super easy to read and just enjoy and sometimes that’s just what I need. As someone who mainly reads high fantasy that can be super complex and difficult to understand at times this was such a refreshing change for me. I will definitely be looking out for more of their books in the future.
In A Holidaze is on my Christmas re-read list. I loved every single moment of it, and I already want to re-read it. To experience the drama and the romance all over again. If you haven’t read this one I urge you to pick this one up for next year.
