From Goodreads:
In a city that sleeps, the darkness is gathering…

For Londoner Fern King, Annwn is her second home – the dream mirror of London, the city she loves. An astonishing world, a world where Dreamers walk in their slumber, their dreams playing out all around them. And Fern, along with her twin brother Ollie, is now a Knight, a trusted guardian and protector of those Dreamers – and every night is spent in Annwn, fulfilling that previously only-imagined destiny to guard those who sleep.

But Annwn, this dark and golden city, is a fragile place. There are those who seek to control and to ruin it – mistrust and secrets are rife, and as the delicate symbiotic balance between Annwn and our own world begins to topple, rips begin to appear between the fabric of the worlds. And Fern and Ollie will have to do all in their power to protect this place that has become so precious to them…

As soon as I finished Midnight’s Twins last year, I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next and dive back into this fantastical series. I am so happy to have finally gotten my hands on the second book, and I was not disappointed. A Gathering Midnight was everything I could have wanted from this sequel and more. I once again fell head over heels in love with this magical world and it’s characters. I am once again left dying for more and can’t wait for the final book.

A Gathering Midnight picks up where Midnight’s Twins left off, with our favourite twins reeling from the death of their friends. But in the real world they can’t mourn or show any of this, as nobody knows that they knew them. One thing I adore about this series so much is the two different worlds that are running parallel. We have a normal, every day world and then when the characters go to sleep they are whisked off to the magical dream world of Annwn. I just adore this concept as it’s something new and unique that I haven’t seen before in a book. I absolutely love the mixture of the worlds and adding in some Fae lore (who doesn’t love a Fae book?) and a dash of Merlin and Arthurian legend. This is such a perfect mix and turns it into the absolute perfect series for me.

I remember when I finished Midnight’s Twins I was left a little disappointed in terms of the romance side of it. I felt like I would have loved the book so much more if there had been a dash of romance there for me. I am so, so happy to report that I got this wish in A Gathering Midnight. I got my little dash of a slow burn romance and it was absolutely everything. Even better we technically got two love stories in one. We see Fern’s slow building romance and her brother’s romance as well. It was perfection!

A Gathering Midnight is fast paced and action packed. Right from the very first page I was thrown back into this stunning magical world and I couldn’t put it down. Holly Race is absolutely fantastic at grabbing your attention and never letting it go for a minute. Sometimes with second books in trilogies I find the pacing can be a little hit and miss and eb and flow throughout the book. That was not the case with this book. Every page grabbed you and you never wanted to put the book down. I loved every second of it.

Once again Holly has left me reeling. I couldn’t believe the ending and while it isn’t what I would call a cliffhanger it did leave me thinking “Well… shit”. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next and I will be waiting on tenterhooks for the rest of the year dying to get my hands on the third and final book. This doesn’t seem like the most hyped book when you consider what people post on social media… but it absolutely should be! I urge everyone to pick up this series because it really is fantastic! I loved every moment of it and I can’t wait to read more.
