There are worse things than death. Things that lurk in the shadows and slip into your dreams. Things that have no business existing. Things that once slept … but have now awoken. For Callypso Lillis, the fae magic that now runs through her veins is equal parts curse and good fortune. For the very thing that bonds her to Desmond Flynn, the King of the Night, also makes her vulnerable to the Thief of Souls, a man who wants to break the world … and Callie along with it.
But it’s not just the Thief whose shadow looms over the Otherworld. Des’s father is back from the dead, and he wants revenge on the son who sent him to the grave in the first place.
Des and Callie must figure out how to stop both men, and time is running out. Because there are forces at play working to tear the lovers apart once and for all … and unfortunately for them, death is no longer the worst thing to fear.
“People like us are not victims, he’d once told me. We’re someone’s nightmare.”
I fell head over heels in love with Callie and Des’ love story in January when I read the first book in The Bargainer series. It’s very rare for me to read a full series all in one sitting and after having a very slight break from this series, I dived straight back in. I couldn’t wait to see how their story ended. This time, I listened to the audiobook for this one. I have been listening to audiobooks while working from home, so I decided to listen to the final book of this series. I really enjoyed the narrator. I think she did a fantastic job at envisioning Callie. I was very impressed with her.
I really enjoyed Dark Harmony. As the final instalment of The Bargainer series I was so engrossed straight away and couldn’t wait to see how everything was going to pan out for Callie and Des. I was desperate to see them get their happy ending after everything that they have been through. Was this my favourite instalment of the series? No, it wasn’t. But it was a very satisfying conclusion. Some of the big reveals I had already guessed, but it didn’t make the book any less enjoyable.
I did feel like the pacing was off a little bit in this one. There were moment when I would get a little bit bored and then something would happen for the pace to pick up, but then after a few pages it slower right down again. I am most definitely a pace and plot kind of reader. I don’t deal well with slow books so these pacing issues definitely affected my enjoyment a little bit, but I was already invested in this series, so not that much.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a great, satisfying conclusion to a great paranormal series. It is definitely one I could enjoy again and again, and I highly recommend it to any fantasy and paranormal romance fans.
