Luna Lark used to love her name, but that was before people started saying it differently.I’m so sorry, Luna.
Are you alright, Luna?
Everything will be okay, Luna.Luna doesn’t want pity, what she wants is a fresh start. Somewhere she can make headway on her next novel, mend her broken heart, and – most importantly – keep herself to herself.
For that Luna needs the most remote place she can find: Ondingside, a magical little island off the wild coast of Scotland. And when the town is cut off on her first night by a freak July snow storm it feels like fate.
But Luna soon realises that being a newcomer in a small town might not be the best way to blend in. People are curious about her – handsome, kind, coffee shop owner Beau in particular. Will history repeat itself or will they have a future?
In The Time We Lost has been sat on my shelf for about a year. I’m a big fan of Carrie’s and have read and loved her previous work so I was really looking forward to this one. I’d purposefully left it for this time of year as it seemed the perfect Christmassy read.
In The Time We Lost follows the story of Luna, a girl who has lost everything… her family died in a tragic car accident and then her fiance left her at the alter. Escaping to a small island called Ondingside was perfect for her. Get away from everything and hopefully start working on her new novel. But then a freak snowstorm hits, and the residents of Ondingside start replaying the same day over and over again. Can any of them escape when they don’t remember how long they have been living the same day?
I really enjoyed this book. It was such a fun and interesting take on a Groundhog Day kind of trope. It was fast paced and I couldn’t put it down. I was racing through the pages to find out whether the residents were going to get out of this freak snowstorm. I just couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. I really loved the building relationship between Luna and Beau. Even though they didn’t remember all the times they had met, there was still this slow burn romance developing and I was here for it. I am a hopeless romantic at heart and I love a slow burn romance. It was totally perfect for me.
In The Time We Lost is a magical and wonderful story. The ending was a little bittersweet and honestly I was a little bit disappointed in it. I kind of wish Carrie would write a little novella that comes after the conclusion of this book, kind of like she did for On the Other Side. Apart from the bittersweet ending though this book was great and I really enjoyed it.

Thank you for your review! I agree, I thought the ending was bittersweet too and I too was endlessly questioning whether the Ondingside residents would escape from the snowstorm’s effects. I also enjoyed Luna and Beau’s slow burn relationship- with each interaction I was rooting for them more and more. This was my first proper adult romance book and I throughly loved it!
