Favourite Book Subscription Boxes
I am such a huge lover of book subscription boxes. I came across them quite a lot of years ago and was completely heartbroken that they all seemed to be based in America. Fast forward a couple of years and I came across a relatively new UK bookish box, Illumicrate. I was so surprised when looking into it, that one of my very first blogger friends from way back when, runs it. Now I am a regular subscriber of two leading UK bookish subscription boxes so I thought I’d do a post about them both and what I love about them!
My First Bookish Box Love: Illumicrate
Illumicrate was the very first bookish box that I subscribed to about 3 years ago, and I am still an active subscriber. Here’s some things that I absolutely love about Illumicrate
- The special edition books are always so beautiful and stunning. Whether it’s a new, special cover for their edition, or sprayed edges they are always stunning.
- I love that the books are Hardback editions. When a lot of YA books release straight to paperback in the UK it’s amazing to get the hardback editions.
- The books are from a range of different genres. I’ve become a huge fan of so many books and genres that I wouldn’t usually have read, purely because I’ve received them in a box.
- The merchandise is awesome. I love the merchandise, especially the notebooks and art prints that you can get.
- The collectibles. First it was the collectible coins, now we have the pins that match the books. I love them.

My Second Bookish Box Love: Fairyloot
Fairyloot was one that I was super excited to find out about. I am a huge fantasy fan and to find a YA subscription box focused on fantasy books. I decided to subscribe purely to get the special edition of The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh. I said I was going to subscribe for a month or two and then decide which I wanted to continue with… Illumicrate or Fairyloot. A year later I’m still subscribed to both.
- More unknown books are featured. Fairyloot often include books that I’ve never heard of. Some of those I’ve not really enjoyed, but some of them I’ve loved. It’s an amazing opportunity to find some books that are not necessarily published here in the UK.
- The special editions. The special edition hardbacks are stunning. They have gorgeous sprayed edges, covers and are usually signed.
- The merchandise. Fairyloot have often done some gorgeous tumblers and notebooks. I’ve personally loved all of the merchandise. I have a soft spot for the bookish journals that they include.

There you go, there’s my two favourite bookish subscription boxes. Both of these are currently having waitlists for their subscriptions but if you’re looking for a new UK based book box, I recommend joining those waitlists.
